Anyone seen or spoken to Ruffkintoy?

I'm not trying to argue with you guys so don't take it as that. I'm just trying to give you a little bit of assurance that he will come through for you and do what he can to make it right.

this comes up a lot, and i always say the same thing. but, i'm stuck late at work, so i'll say it again :)

what you are all saying is not wrong in any sane sense. however, it really just doesn't apply in this hobby, as far as i have seen. we're dealing in unlicensed replicas of props owned by one of the biggest entities in the movie industry. there's not a whole lot of foundation in upstanding business practice there ;)

for better or worse, many of the people selling stuff do not treat this as a business. expect delays. expect poor communication. i'm not saying that this is good, or that i agree with it, but it is a reality. if you get surprised and actually get good service, think of it as a treat.

don't want to wait for stuff? make it yourself. it's really the only way. don't have the time/skill to do that? well, then you're at the mercy of those that do.

it sounds mean / cold / cynical / whatever, but it has been my experience over the time that i've been in this hobby that you'll wait at LEAST 4-5 times as long as the sellers tell you that you'll wait.

let's see... my backplate took 6 months, and i was told 3-4 weeks. my gauntlets were 6-7 months. i've waited 4-5 months for several helmets, 3-4 months for a jet pack... and this is almost all from top notch people. it's just a sad reality.

that's why i've been learning to do the molding/casting stuff, and why i've become close friends with the wizard of flight templates. i'm tired of waiting forever for stuff, so i'm doing it on my own. it's also why i won't do runs of things... i'd treat them just like everyone else. i'd do it when i had the time, if i felt like it.

there's alot of that that I was wanting to say but didn't, thanks for saying it for me (y)

I was a middle man for a run a loooong time ago and I will never do it again because guess what life happened, computer died, and things really hit the fan. And this was just before Halloween and I busted my butt and ended up with no profit in the situation trying to make sure everyone got their stuff on time. I guess I kinda know what it's like to be in Chuck's position and have people gripping and you don't have a way to do anything about it. If his last communication with anyone was the 21st maybe there's a reason for it. Just don't judge a guy with a good rep on 1 or 2 bad experiences. If it becomes a theme then yeah, the market will work the way it's supposed to and he won't get any more customers, but I don't see this as a repeat offence so.

It sucks when it happens to you and I feel for you guys I really do. If you have a deadline start looking into alternatives like borrowing from someone if you can or buying a set in the cargo hold and resell either that set or Chucks when you get it. To quote a movie I saw one time or another ;) "There are alternatives to fighting"

Hey Sparda...Sorry for the late post, but Ruffkin told me the same thing. He said I would get a tracking number early a couple weeks ago and as per his useual contacting, nothing. Two weeks went by and then BAM I opened my mail box and there they were! So hopefully they should be there soon.

I was also in your same boat and was thinking about fileing PP disputes against him. But I decided to wait. I think PP gives you 3 months to file (I may be worng, don't quote me on that).

I wish everyone the best of luckwith their gauntlets, and I aplaude the people sticking up for him, I feel like I am too in a way. But things have to change. I am sure the guy is a great person, and I would love to meet up with him one day. But I did need more contact from him. Life happens but again he posted an update on another site and not here. When was the last time he was on here anyways?

I would submit this idea to the Dent.....If it would be approved (I know there are possible legal issues with this and don't want to get anyone into trouble), but a thread of sticky could be formed where people can write reviews on a seller. I hate to say this but Ebay has it right. Buyers have a right to know who they are buying from and if the person is fast or slow or the communication level so people don't freak out when people seem to disappear for a time. I feel if there is a thread or sticky where people can post reviews on sellers, the sellers would be held more responsible about getting this done or at least being in contact with the buyer. They would want good reviews so others will buy from them. This would encourage them to work properly and also if they are booked not take any more orders. It is always fine to say "no", we can't always get stuff from the same person and expect everyone to get there stuff quickly. I feel that this would help sellers and buyers alike. Just putting it out there as a possible resolution to the problem at hand.

Cheers!

Thanks, hearing that makes me feel better.
I trhink I am past the allowable timeframe to file a dispute through PP so I just hope my stuff gets here soon.

I actaully agree with your idea to have vendor reviews. It would help everybody, sellers and buyers alike.
:cheers

I told you guys that Chuck would come through. Granted it took longer than it probably should have. I don't think filing with paypal would be needed. If it came down to it I'm sure you could get your money back if you asked.

The idea of having a vender review has been brought up several times before and I agree that it would be a great idea and would be helpful both to the sellers and buyers. The reason it has never happened to this point is that what we do, and the things that are sold are in the grey area of legality. Although it doesn't take long to figure out who people are it does take more than entering a forum and having a list right there in front of you along with contact info for all of them. We operate in the good graces of LFL and George himself and we are thankful for that, but should those good graces ever come to an end we need to be someone less open than that. If there was a good way to do reviews and still keep somewhat how it is now I'm sure we would do it.

I really hope I haven't come off as sounding harsh or TOO demanding... The last thing I want to do is tick of the guy that has $285 of my hard earned money, you know?

But you guys have helped ease my mind about it, at least a little bit.

Thanks guys.

i believe TDH has a very firm "we aren't involved in your transactions" sort of policy. i know the seller list has come up in the past and been shot down for some reason or another.

I fully agree with TDH not being responsible for sales on here, and they shouldn't. I think people posting reviews of experience with a seller would be ok and would help us all out. I know there is legal issues with selling this stuff, but it's pretty open about who is selling what (look in the cargo hold and in a second you know who is selling what). I am just thinking that it would not discourage sales but would help people with what to expect from the seller. If it says it takes awhile...then they would wait awhile instead of worring. It's just an idea (one that has been posted before). Just though it would help in this case and in others.
cheers all!!
Did everyone get their Ruffkin orders yet?

I'm still waiting here. I think what gets me worried is that I have had absolutely no contact at all. Some of you have gotten an e-mail here and there. Anyway...

I need to have the last parts of my suit done in two weeks so I may be scratchbuilding. I figure maybe I can trade the stuff I make (if its decent enough)... or save it in case of an unforseen damage.

Thanks for your reassurances guys.

I feel the need to chime in here.. I´ve been waiting on a pair of ROTJ Gauntlets painted and everything. Arrival time should have been the middle of June.
I got a response from him in the middle of August. Then nothing.

I have written to him several times, but I get no replies.

I understand that this is a hobby, but A LOT of people are chiming in here, and aren´t we starting to see a trend? I believe so.

If you can´t get the job done, refund people or at least let them know there is a delay!

Chiming in here too... I placed an order at the beginning of May. Paid when I was asked to, and then given a reasonable wait time.
I knew there would be a significant wait, but I didn't expect and excess of 4 months.

But Chuck was usually very good about responding to emails just touching base... it was worrisome to go a month with no repsonses.

All that being said, I hope he's ok after his injury. It's not something he should take lightly. The back and neck are very delicate things.

I'm just having a hard time dealing with a blackout in comminication... I can be patient, if the person at least takes the time to write back and update. But that's just not happening right now. I think that's what most people are having a hard time with.

Stellardude, that is exactly the thing! I can at least say for myself, I don't mind waiting. The thing is that he is not staying in contact or even updateing us. I wouldn't be worried about him not coming through, he does, but it is just the lack of contact that is the concern. He might have been better about this prior, but now it is causing a problem. I do hope that soon we are seeing more "I got it" posts rather than "where are they posts".
Cheers All!

P.S. Those who purchased the gauntlets (unfinished, or maybe even finished) there is a lot of work to be done. I have had to trim up, sand down, and reshape a bit every part of the gauntlets, not to mention having to fiberglass the inside.... Just a heads up for you all.

Still ain't gotten my stuff yet, and still no contact from him.

I'm really doubtful that he will be able to come through on his "by Halloween" promise. I've pretty much given up, and said "screw it" to my plans for Halloween this year.
I just don't get why he can email me after he had the head injury just to make a promise, but then after that break it with no response.

:cryYou new guys are way too impatient:facepalm Yes, I know we all want it now...;)
Really?! We're quoting "seniority" here now?
Being uncomfortable with a 4 month wait for something that was promised it would take no more than 8 weeks is not "impatience"... nor is feeling upset after being ignored for almost a month when a quick update would suffice.

well not really wanting it now, but after waiting for 4 months, going on 5, it was promised to me in a couple of weeks. I don't feel i'm crying about anything. You know a couple hundred bucks may not be much money to you, but I work hard for it, and also have kids so i gotta plan my way around buying things like this. Like i said i am waiting patiently, and don't appreciate the crybaby thing that you are implying.

This does not seem to me like a "newbie" issue, or an "oldie" issue, it is just "rights" issue.
It seems that everyone here has more than enough patience, and no one here has said any fowl thing, just voiced their COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE concern.

I'm chiming in here again too. Ordered my f-glassed gauntlets in early June (if i remember correctly) and he said i'd have them inside of a month. I've sent emails off to him and usualy got a reply within a week or so. Each time stating something along the lines of "they're done and all I have to do is go to the post office". Still nothing. Been sending emails every 2 weeks for the last month and a half or so and getting pretty much the same mail others have been getting.

I live in an area that's starting to get rather chilly at nights..and my workshop is unheated. If i dont get things soon, i wont have to worry about Halloween as i wont beable to work on anything untill roughly next March.
