501 Question?????

I particapated in a 501 event last night and to my surprise some of the patrons ( it was a hockey game ) were quite rude. I was actually appalled by what some of them called us and myself. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm not very proud of the Legion sometimes. More often than not nowadays, how ever, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Normally cliques start problems, seems like most people just want to have fun. Bob is part of the NEG, maybe you could talk to him about what happened?

I may be wrong, but I think he means the people were rude to the troopers. But again I could be mistaken.

Yea i believe thats what he means.

I am a member of the 501st as well, Andy, over all i feel about 90-95% of the legion are good people, but as within every large group, theres gonna be some bad apples, and i wouldnt judge the group as a whole based on those few.

Ok back on topic...
It happens, on occasion you'll get people yelling at you to "get a life" or knockin you in your bucket or whatnot, comes with the territory.

Hockey games are sometimes violent in nature, and people who enjoy the rough stuff do go to hockey games, sometimes just to see the fights, so it doesnt surprise me.Im not saying all hockey patrons are like that, but there are alot of them.

I wouldnt let it discourage ya,more times thannot, we are apprciated :)

Ooh, I get ya :) The Legion has just been extremely depressing me lately, haha. Those 5-10% are really spoiling things as of late in my group.

Anyway back on track... I just ignore it when people try to make fun of us in costume or something. It is actually quite rare to hear that happen, but it does. Normally events partake in places which people who don't appreciate that kind of stuff attend.

yeah the problem is with the public not the 501 members, I guess I was not expecting it so it took me off guard, I'll be ready if it happens again

yeah it does happen. At a event at a mall we had a guy yelling Loser as a wookiee growl/roar, but I'm not sure he realized that the guy walking around out of costume yelling stuff in a wookiee voice is the real loser.

I haven't gotten that, at least, not that I could hear. I have been in my Trooper and gotten the "Oh, he bought that" or "He must have rented that" a few times.

I guess it depends on the event. I don't think I've been some place in my trooper that hasn't been either a convention, Halloween, or a Star Wars event.

To tell you the truth, I'm not too suprised. It was a sporting event. These people came to watch a fight (I know it was hockey) they probably didn't know why you were there in your suits. That doesn't excuse their behavior. People can be just rude.

I've done a few hockey game troops here for the Ottawa Senators, and the patrons to watch out for are the ones who seem too intoxicated to really care about what they're doing. They tend to look at anyone in a costume, including team mascots, as some sort of play thing that's there for their personal amusement.

Name calling is one thing, it's when you start getting hit, shoved, and man handled that it's time to remove the helmet and as politely as you can, tell them to stop. At our last troop, they had to call it before the first period finished as they were getting beat around so badly. One of the guys found blood on the back of his TK armour... and it wasn't his!

In spite of all that though, they got invited into a private box by one of our local news celebrities Max Keeping. The group was then invited to attend his annual Birthday Bowlathon, at which we made at least six more contacts for possible events. So a ton of good came what would've other wise been a horrible troop.
