Well that explains that. I'm assuming it works the same way for the sandstone that I mentioned? That is still pretty impressive that 3d printing has already come that far.

Clearly it will end all creativity .

End Thread!

Did I win? Seriously though there will always be creative people wanting to do new things. I think if you think about it, some people would argue that making a Boba Fett costume is not nearly as creative as making a "Custom Mando". It is usually about self expression and we will hopefully always find ways to do that

I know there is a guy in Atlanta known as "Vader Painter" - - - - who does a stellar screen accurate Darth Vader - - - and he happens to own a 3D printer. He has done some amazing stuff to help in his craft!

^^ This is why I'm so heavy into printing. It's saving me a ton of money with my Boba Fett, Sandtrooper, and Republic Commando costumes (yes, I'm doing three at once). I have close friends who are master prop painters, skilled wood and metal craftsman, and a mother in law who can sew like no one is ever seen. Payment to the friends is usually just in the form of beer (high point) and pizza.

well if you have 24 min's watch this. a new model/way of 3D printing is now printing without layers, it's like putting a pie in the oven and coming back to it all done  amazing bit of kit the applications are without limit, if you listen to what this guy is saying it sounds like he has seen the future...

I don't like it lol its all to clean in that work shop  ;) amazing stuff really, no need for a stock room before long! :confused

Yeah, this is an SLA printer that uses a laser in a solution to create stuff, which you then have to expose to UV to cure. The detail these printers can do is just unreal. I was using large scale versions of these about 9 years ago with a company I worked for. There's a version of this made by Form Labs, that I'd love to have but they're expensive, and so is the material.

My initial gut reaction is to agree with you that it might kill creativity.

But then when I think about the tools I use to scratch-build my Fett, I realize they help me make all kinds of short cuts that others might not have access to and certainly not a long time ago. Everything from the ruler I use to make straight lines and X-acto cuts, to the belt sander for shaping to the spray paint (as opposed to brush-applied) are small advances in technology and convenience that I'm comfortable with.

My first Fett when I was 12 was even more scratch-built, using a few magazine pics and my own imagination. So fast forward 36 years and I used templates, reference images and advice from this site, as well as some cast and handmade parts from other TDH members and I wonder if that's killed my creativity? I honestly don't think so.

Deep thought that towards the end (y) I guess in the long run it wont ever stop people making things by hand, just take longer than a printer would I guess

@CypherRaxx you say 9 years ago they were using UV printers? wow I thought this was the next gen of 3D printing over the now common place layer type printers... it's expanding so fast.
