Weathered my pouches...

I used charcoal (the drawerin' kind) and pastels to do this. Taking small pieces of black charcoal and various colors of brown, I crushed them with a hammer in a Ziploc bag until they were a fine powder. Poured them out onto foam picnic plates and rubbed a paper towel into them, dabbing away excess powder, then rubbing into the fabric.

This stuff is so ground in that it won't readily rub off on your fingers, but probably wouldn't stay too well if washed. Fortunately my Fett is a static display and I don't have to worry about him getting sweaty!

After the entire pouch is done I used a tire brush to brush and give an overall smoothness to the filth:)

This is one weathered pouch (left, duh) next to an un-weathered one. The pouches I made myself using general measurements talked about in different threads on this board. I'll post two different pics each in different lighting.

The second pic, while a tad blurry, is closer to the actual overall color.

Lemme know what you think!

Do you and I share a brainwave? I just re-weathered my jumpsuit right before SDCC using the exact same method! Good job ... came out great!;)(y);)

Its possible. Believe it or not I actually did the jumpsuit way before I did the pouches with the same method.

I haven't posted any pics of that because the jumpsuit I'm using is a Dickies (polyester:() that I modified :(and it really is too dark overall. I have a SGB jumpsuit, but haven't taken the time to switch it out on the mannequin that I made.

Darn work. Taking up all my valubale prop time!

Very nice work! The weathering looks really natural. (y)
As far as the pastels rubbing off, have you considered trying to find some kind of fabric sealant?

I thought about it, but as I stated before it is only a static display so I shouldn't have too much to worry about.

For those of you that troop, spray starch and Aquanet hairspray are both time-tested methods for sealing chalks/pastels/charcoal. I bought a can of pastel sealant recently by Krylon. I haven't really tested it yet and I'm not sure how it would do on fabric.

Thanks for all the good feedback everybody!(y)
