US Buckle and Belt - Build up

Hi

I've just finished making a resin US Buckle and Belt for a guy as he couldn't get hold of the real deal. I'm really pleased with the results. The buckle is decorative (doesn't actually work) but once attached to the belt and is being worn it will look just like the real thing. Here's how I made it:

  • I made a mould of my original buckle and took a resin copy.
  • I sprayed the buckle in a coat of very fine grade modelling primer then applied a very thin coat of automotive silver.
  • Next, I lightly weathered the buckle with a black acrylic wash.
  • Then I used a layer of Pewter 'Rub N Buff' followed by a lighter layer of Silver Rub N Buff. This gave it a nice metallic look and feel.
  • I then dremelled two holes on the reverse and embedded a couple of small bolts into it using epoxy filler. The buckle is now complete.
  • For the belt I used a good quality 2 inch black webbing and added the two 'eyelets' in the centre.
  • I then added the Velcro strips on the ends of the belt.

The Velcro belt could attach to your jet pack if you wanted to actually make it a little more authentic, but once the belt is fastened it will look just like it's attached to your jet pack anyway as the back of the belt will be hidden underneath your jet pack.

Wow... realy nice work there Daz....
Are you thinking of doing a 'run'? ;)
I've been looking and looking for one of these! once again you seem to find the answers? (y)

Great job Daz. I thought of casting my buckle in resin for a couple people, and was wondering how good it could turn out. Very well it seems, looks like the real thing. My only question- don't people usually use metallic tape to cover the US Divers Co to be accurate? Then you wouldn't have to paint much at all.

Good point, it would be very easy for me to fill the letters with filler before I sprayed it.

I would consider making a few of these if there are a few people who would like one.

OK, let's gather a few names together and take it from there. You can have the buckle with the "US Divers Co" removed if you wish. The cost for everything fully finished and made to measure is:

UK = £30 including 1st class shipping
USA = $65 including airmail

LOL is there anything you can't make!!:cheers

I really think you sit at home, pick up mental vibes from all the fett heads across the globe and make/create what most of them desire.

now all you need to do is move to North America...

great item, Daz.

It's better if you just PM me or drop me an email if you're interested rather than starting a run. Others have are doing this and it seems better than organising a run list.

Amazing !! if you do a run put me on the list (y)
Looks like the real deal :eek:
