Studio Scale 15” Jet Pack Patterns

Well, for the record, I have been working on my pack using these templates and let me just say that WoF is a freakin' genius! Everything goes together well and no issues. With building it mostly from sintra, I'd guess the final pack will weigh at or around 2-3 lbs in the end. :)

Since there's no way on Earth that I'll be able to afford a Bobamaker jet pack anytime remotely soon, I think I'm going to have my technophobic self try and sort out how to print all these pages out and then use them to make something complicated like the jet pack in the coming months. Needless to say, it's not gonna be pretty...I'll keep you posted-I'm sure it'll be almost like a comedy routine for you all! Has anyone come up with a complete list of materials someone will need before starting this project? Maybe recommendations on what the best materials are for the job and anything else that'd be helpful to someone fairly new to prop making etc...Any suggestion would be helpful to me, so all would be welcome...

I would recommend 3mm and 1mm foamex. These are the two main elements I used when building mine... and loads of epoxy filler (Bondo);)

The filler will bond foamex together very well, see if you can find 'easy sand' filler, this is a major help.

Have fun

You want to use Bondo spot and glazing putty for the fine areas. I used regular auto body bondo for major fills and then used the glazing putty to smooth out that and the fine areas.

The stuff sands like a dream, but the only drawback is that you can't put it on very thick because it tends to crack when setting up if you have it too thick. This is for smoothing out places and hiding seams.

You can get it at Wal-Mart, Meijer, Autozone, Advance Auto, O'Reilly's...etc.

I've been using WOF plans for a jet pack, but making an arena version.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can use for the bottom grate on the main tube? Found item, similar item to be reworked or someone that is selling resin copies?

I just printed these out at work and i absolutely love 'em...

but you know what they say.. invent something fool proof and someone will invent a better fool.

So.. a suggestion. How about numbering the pages so when looking on the assembly pages as well as the partpages so that you can say: "Ah.. so that part can be found on page 34!" and so forth...

That is a great suggestion!! I should have thought of it, DOH! I will will put it on the list for the next revision. I am working on the Jango Arena pack and I will make sure to incorporate it into those as well.

Thank you!

Alan
