On screen ESB armour colours

Sleeping Jiva

New Hunter
Ok I am aware of the paint listing that RS has provided for the AOSW armour but I aim to go for a screen accurate ESB paintjob on my armour and I am wondering if anyone knows the true colours used and if they're Testors paints, etc.
Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated (y)

Actually I think the ESB colors look a little different then the ROTJ colors. I would suggest talking to JangoFettJR here as his ESB armor is one of the best I have ever seen. I think he used Floquil paints also.

That's the colour I used and I quite like it. I don't know if it's perfect, but Jango's Kid suggested it to me a while ago and I think it looks pretty close. Ever since I repainted my gauntlets with RLM 62 it seems to look even better. Just the other morning I took a look at my suit on my mannequin, and the lighting was just right so that the colours matched pretty well to the Bespin hallway photos I have.

Just noticed I've posted this thread in the wrong place. Duh! Sorry I had just finished a 10 hr nightshift. If it needs to be moved to the "armour" section I humbly apologise.
If anyone has any pics they can post of their armour using these colours that would be cool.

This may be true but I account the "little difference" to the lighting. A few years ago there was a great helmet thread (long before LEE posted the accurate color) debating what the colors really looked like. IMO they are the same but the lighting plays such a huge role on how we precieve them that they may actually look like 2 differen colors all together, but in reality their the same.

I've always been kind of impartial to the Panzer Olive Green camp. I painted all my costume with it and weathered accordingly with the "RLM 82" color in the form of washes and thought the end product was "right". I have my ESB Boba on my mannequin right in front of the ESB Boba poster and it really looks close.

I've been using RLM 82 for a long time now. We still don't know if its perfect, but I've done alot of experimenting with this, & IMO its the closest color we have right now.

Did you mean RLM 82 like the armor, or is the RLM 62 another color all together?

There are quite a few different shades of RLM. There is RLM 62, RLM 71, RLM 82 etc etc. RLM 62 is the color to use on the gauntlets & JP, RLM 82 is what some of us use on the armour. RLM 82 is much darker than RLM 62.

That is very possible, as I have not seen the two sets of armor next to each other in the same lighting it is impossible to tell for sure. Really I think it comes down to what you think looks "right" in your eyes. If you paint you armor up in the US Med Green and like it then keep it that way. If you want to use the JFJ colors posted above and think those look good do it. I doubt anyone is going to come up and give your poop because your colors are a shade or two off. :cheers

I totally agree with Predatormv since none of us knows for sure what was used on the (green portions) ESB suit with the helmet as the only exception.....go with what looks "right" to you albeit these are all good guidelines to follow regarding color choices to keep it in the ballpark.....or knock it out of, depending on your point of view:lol:

Correct me if I'm wrong, most people go with enamel. Does anyone go with acrylic? I have a feeling they are more freely available this side of the pond, possibly easier to work with too but once again would need a close match up of the colours. Life's never simple is it?

Absolutely....Polly scale acrylic is what I and I'm sure alot of others used. It needs to be airbrushed, but is the best medium in my opinion.

Cheers Steve (y) Is there an acrylic paintlist you (or anyone) would suggest to go by for best results with an airbrush. I've searched through the forums and seen so many variations that my stress level is hitting maximum and I haven't lifted a finger yet. Brands aswell as colours would be appreciated, then I can go recce local UK craft stores.

When looking for helmet paints the other day, I see you say the ESB gauntlets and jet pack are RLM 62, which is just called "Grun" when I saw it in the store. I thought people were using the same "Panzerolivegrun" like the helmet paint for the gauntlets and jet packs? The store had both, so they aren't the same color.

Also, speaking of POG...they had it in Testors both acrylic and enamel. Does it really matter which style I get?

Yes RLM 62 is also refered to as "grun", RLM 82 is sometimes refered to as "dunklegrun". Now I'm not up on my German lingo, but I believe "grun " translates into green, "dunkle grun" translates into dark green, and panzer olivegrun translates into panzer olive green. I've seen both lables on testers paints before. As you can see from the posts above, there are many theories as to what is the best way to go with the ESB colors. Originally, I did my hemet, gauntlets and Jp with POG, however I had to heavily mist the JP & gauntlets with light grey to get the contrast right with the bucket. Eventually, I decided to paint my gauntlets with RLM 62 or "grun" To be honest, I couldn't even tell that they were repainted,as weathered POG looks very similar to RLM 62. However, using rlm 62 is much easier, as it looks really good without a ton of weathering. My JP is still POG base with heavy grey misting, but eventually I'm gonna repaint it with RLM 62, as I believe that is the correct color. For the record, the RLM 62 comes recommended by RS, (THanx again Lee ;) )Do what looks right to you. In any event, whichever route you choose, the colors are very close. As far as acrylic vs. enamel, I guess I always use enamel as its more durable, but I have used both, and they look almost identicle in color to me. Here are a few pics so you can see how the colors look on my suit ;)
