So after mastering a sewing machine, here is the results of my new vest 
I am some what pleased with the fit of it. It bunches ever so slightly at the bottom but its thankfully not the cut, so an iron will hopefully so that out. Sorry for a bad quality photo's, light in hallway isn't as good a natural obviously
I have attached photos of my recent attempt, my original attempt 10 years ago and also the vest bought in between.
