ROTJ Gauntlet Build-Up & Painting

You know, I've never really thought an aluminum and brass rocket was necessary, but I have to say, that yours make me think differently. Maybe one day I'll upgrade.

awesome step by step "instructions" I've got a set of ruffkin's gauntlets that I got for Christmas that I haven't started on yet (for various reasons including not knowing where to start) this thread should help me alot when I start on mine! Sometimes procrastinating pays, very rarely but this time it did!

I've used a homemade rocket for 5 years that I was VERY happy with. It can't touch Russ's, though! If you get the opportunity, do the upgrade. It's a HUGE piece of metal and really pulls everything together.

The rocket gives the gauntlets (and the costume as a whole) a bit more "credibility" (for lack of a better word), too. With lots of METAL parts, everything looks more "realistic". Maybe that's just me, though. ;)

Ok... This is a pic of the original from MoM. The toggle switches have been lost over the years, but you can still see the holes where they were mounted(pointed to by the arrows):

Hope that helps! :D

i'm right there with ya! i'm just waiting for the day that i can get some nice heavy metal gauntlets :)

Don't wish for that. I have some heavy resin Predator gauntlets that weigh 5.2 pounds for the pair. I've worn those around conventions and that does wear on you.

The rocket is close to a pound. The raw gauntlet, with the 3 layers of fiberglass I added, feels like it weighs a pound. Then you add the UHF connectors, resin parts, and paint... My left gauntlet is darn near 3 pounds, EASY. My right gauntlet is about 2 pounds (no rocket, but it does have the fiberglass and brass and aluminum parts on it).

These are going to be like wearing those wrist weights that people wear when exercising sometimes! :p After an 8 hour troop and carrying an 8 pound EE-3, I'm gonna be BUFF!!! (more like exhausted! :facepalm)

I can't imagine wearing all-metal ones!

J,

Awesome work bro! Love the WIP pics! As for the weight issue, I feel your pain bro...mine's about the same, with alittle bit more added for that 'firinf' effect. Will start a thread on it soon. :)

Thanks again for sharing..

Stay safe,

Tim.
