The No 1 Mark 1

Viper

Active Hunter
Merry Christmas y'all
Found this gem...man, what a piece. It's so much heavier than I expected! The double action is amazing. All the serial numbers match. Walnut stock has the Federal Laboratories stamp on it.
The nickel chrome is worn in some areas, I am considering getting that stripped off and then blueing it back to the original color. I really want to see the contrast of the dark color with the brass grip :D
I tell ya, just to be able to hold this piece of history....wow.
I wish I had the skills and means to cast this!!!!!!

I am in the process of doing a full disassembly and reassembly and will detail each of the parts on here for y'all.
Not sure why the pics are sideways/upside down on here...tried rotating them, etc. If you click twice to see the full image it is right side up. Sorry. :wacko
Cheers

Also the guy I got this from may have a line on a Schermuly for me. Fingers crossed

Well, it is kind of. That's the Webley and Scott Schermuly Multi purpose gun also sometimes called the Schermuly riot gun so I think it does function as a flare gun/tear gas gun/rubber bullet gun etc.

These are so cool! If I'm not mistaken, I thought the ones with the Federal Laboratories were originally chrome and not blued. I know there is a thread somewhere around here that gives the history of the Webley and Scott vs the Federal Laboratories. I think the thread was even written by the man himself "intwenothor". (y)

There is such a thread but the real author of most of it was Molly Milner of the Breach Loading Small Arms Society (or something) and I plagiarised most of the info from a lecture she gave on these flare guns. I pieced the rest together with a bit of research of my own. I couldn't say how many Webley guns ended up going to Fed Labs. The only thing I could definitely discern was that there were 26665 1 1/2", No 1 Mk 1, 10" barrel Flare guns and 21635 of the 1 1/2", No 2 Mk 1, 4" barrel guns. They share a common serial number range which means that the No 1 Mk 1s weren't 1 - 26665 and the No 2 Mk 1s 26666 - 43000; all the serial numbers were mixed in together. I can probably find out exactly which were which if there's a real desire to know but it won't change anything really (because I believe the original records may still exist). There may be records on what Fed Labs acquired in general terms but I doubt it would stretch to which serial numbers exactly even if the records are still around.

Here are some of the components! intwenothor fascinating stuff!

Question...these are too small to 3D scan and print, yes? It would be sweet to craft the components so people could get actual "functioning" replicas.

The small parts can be cast, as for the screw its best to use off the shelf items. I would love to create a functional prop with a spring trigger.

That would be sweet @Malkavian
Well...disassembly and re-assembly was not bad at all! One tricky part, but not bad.
Stripped it all down, degreased, cleaned it up a bit, got some good gun oil in some of the moving parts, and reassembled.
They don't make em like these anymore...

It did function pretty well in N.Ireland when the UDR used to shoot people with rubber bullets, then they just decided to shoot them. Lol
