New Hunter
Hello all,

Just wanted to ask the community a couple quick questions. I am new to the costuming/ prop making world and this past halloween I made a authentic Han Solo ANH outfit from scratch (Minus boots). But after doing that it sorta got me going with the possibilities of what else I could make. The first thought I had was Boba Fett, what better way to show off then with him?

So with that being said, should a first timer make all the parts form scratch. (i.e. vacuum form all the parts, make the molds out of wood/bondo, sew and paint everything.) Or should I buy each part separately?

I don't see it being an issue from what I have researched to make the molds for the armor and gauntlets. The helmet on the other hand I'm sorta lost on.

Is it inappropriate to make your own helmet vs getting a cast from a more major group like fettpride or boba maker? And if so who should i go through. (Meaning most accurate to ESB & ROTJ)

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to ask all you masters your best thoughts on this stuff.Pretty sure I will have more throughout this process, Hope to have a full ESB set made in the next 6-12 months.

Thanks folks.

It's ALL preference it depends on if you want to spend alot of time or money or even a little of both. Also it is a question of how accurate are you looking to go? If your going for screen accuracy be prepared to spend ALOT. I'm as you might call a first timer I made a vault dweller for Chicago Wizard world but thats it, I'm buying all my parts and painting myself because I have very little knowledge on all the sculpting and casting need for screen accuracy: which is what I am going for in mine. But enough of me ha.
I noticed you mentioned "groups" most of the vendors here like fettpride and Bobamaker, Asok etc are all doing this as one man in his garage or small studios so it is by no mean "inappropriate" to make your own helmet because they are essentially doing the same except they are skilled at it.

6-12 months may be cutting it depending on the accuracy your looking for, I'm going for movie accurate and it has taken me 10 months to get where I am, my WIP is here http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/danakin245-esb-wip-46141/

Theres alot more to cover and I am by no mean a master at this I'm not even a prominent figure around here hopefully the veteran users like Darth Voorhees or Seeker chime in with better advice!

But best of luck, have fun and may the force be with you, always! ;)

Thanks for the response mate. I would like to get as accurate as possible, just not sure if doing your own helmet is considered accurate. Guess thats just more research on what to do.

Also yours is looking great so far!!
