General New Boba Purchase

URGENT! Please assist!
Hello all, I'm about to make a purchase for a mostly complete Boba(esb), and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if it looks like a good buy or not? It's supposedly vacuum formed Sintra and not a repainted supreme rubies or something but I don't know enough to be able to tell. Please help me...you're my only hope

Well that looks really good to me.....the chest plates look a little small, but that could just be the sizing of the person they are made for. I think it looks like a good investment....IF the price is right of course.

Looks okay. I mean if you don't want to wait 1-2 years to complete your own build or only have $2kish to spend it doesn't look like a bad suit. I would upgrade a few parts and maybe a new paint job.

A couple of comments.

There are several things wrong with the costume displayed above.

1) Jetpack - Reference the picture shown above (it can be found in greater detail on the site here)
Color scheme and decals used are incorrect. Here is Darth Voorhees jetpack on the 501st's site.

2) Knee Armor
The knee armor looks painted incorrectly. It appears to be two shades of yellow when they are supposed to be orange-yellow in color. In addition, the rear bands are incorrect...the bands are currently black in color and are supposed to be white. It is impossible to see if the darts are accurate because you lack good frontal shots (and from what I see of the paint job it looks inaccurate)

Click here for the full image.

3) Ammo belt
The ammo belt is completely inaccurate. It looks like a Jango Fett belt. It is missing the required buttons look. Here is a sample image of what the belt is supposed to look like. The dead giveaway is the ESB belt only has 7 pouches whereas the one pictured for sale has 8 (besides the buttons).

4) No kidney plate
800px-ESB_Boba_Kidney_Armor.jpg

5) No visible jetpack harness
To see an example of the harness and required diver buckle click here.

6) Shin tools
The shin tools are painted inaccurately. The correct way of painting them are shown below.

The third image pictured is the jetpack adjustment tool...this is easy to make and get...but is not pictured with the set.

7) Left Gauntlet
The flamethrower painting/assembly is not correct per referenced images:
BH_ESB_Boba_Left_Gauntlet.jpg

8) Right Gauntlet
There are two switches posted on the outside of the gauntlet that are supposed to be dental files (not switches...the red and silver buttons on the right side). In addition the darts are not painted correctly (that's a level 2 cert thing though).

9) Helmet
Inconclusive since there are no back images shown.

10) No sidearm holster shown
150px-ESB_Boba_Holster.jpg

11) Cape
The cape color looks WAY off.
538px-ESB_Boba_Cape.jpg
Better to look at the movie images I linked above though.

12) Boots
I am stating boots since these look like the chinsier older type Boba boots and not the MOW boots that are the gold standard now. These would probably pass inspection...but it's tough to tell since there are no good photos of the boots available.

13) Vest
The vest color is WAY too tan...it needs to be off-white.

14) Chest light
Unknown if it exists

That's all for now...I will take a closer look later.

Ankle spats do not look like they are long enough. The cape does not look like it was really weathered or really in battle. For 2500$, it is not a good price. Once again, as someone said here before, no kidney plate. Boots look thick as well. They need to be tattered and maybe a little thinner in terms of fabric. And where is the gun?!

Technically the guns are not required for the costume...but I was thinking the same thing. Ankle spats are not required for ESB...just RoTJ. The spats that came are from the MOW flight suit (which is what is pictured here).

Aaaand this is why I love this site, I really appreciate the expertise. I made some quick reference checks on the 501st site before making the thread and I could only see a couple of the more obvious ones like the cape that I assumed would be an easy fix, I don't really have an eye for this yet. Thanks to all

WOW CrumDum, nice post and great reply to help out us new guys from making an impulse buy and making a bad decision. Seriously, thank you for taking the time.

Some more points.

1) Armor -
There are no collar studs visible. There at a minimum should be 4 holes drilled into the collar piece for the collar studs (there are 4 on the top...2 on each side) if none are glued to the top. Check out my build thread for what they look like (note ESB collar studs are painted differently from RoTJ). I suspect this guy just threw on the armor and most people would not have known the difference (to be fair 99.99% of the world's population would not have known any better). I have collar stud images on my build page here.

The shoulder colors look incorrect to me, one shoulder is orange-yellow...the other is supposed to be yellow. Both in this picture look yellow to me. It might just be the lighting thought. That back plate looks pretty odd too even after looking at the armor comparison thread here. Does anyone recognize that backplate? Raf probably knows.

I am not much of an expert on the paint-up of the armor pieces, others are more proficient at this stuff than me. But if I were to purchase this armor set and wanted top tier quality I would bank on a full repaint.

2) Helmet
There are some areas which I question the painting on the helmet...but I wish there were more photos. I wish Darth Voorhees or 22split chimed in....they are much better at the painting stuff.

3) Flak vest -
I must make a correction here...the vest is still incorrect but it is not to be off-white (I am RoTJ and that's what it is for us) but must be light grey in color. That flak vest is DEFINITELY not light grey...It's possible you could try dying it to that color.

I want to be clear here...there are parts of this outfit I really like. I personally have the MOW suit which isn't screen accurate...but I love it for a number of reasons over the normal flight suit. The gloves here look pretty good. The gauntlets look ok...the points I made are fairly easy to fix if you can do some painting/assembly...personally I would go with a whole new flamethrower section on the one side. But you are going to definitely have to repaint the jetpack, most (if not all) armor pieces, and get several other pieces before you will be able to complete your outfit. If you are not great at painting figure in another 1k to have all that stuff fixed for you and another 300 to 500$ buying the minimum parts to get you to basic certification level. I haven't even factored in gun costs (throw another 800$ in there). I have seen a few nice ESB suits go on this forum for 3 to 3.5k recently...so I suggest waiting it out to get a bonafide good suit with all the pieces you need. If the suit was like 1k or 1.5k ....maybe...but personally I would still probably wait.

I only wish I was an expert. I have an eye now for some of this stuff, but most of the guys here would run circles around me...especially in knowledge of ESB Fett since I am RoTJ Fett.

Where are you guys finding these costumes for sale? I'm new here and have been actively trying to find a full setup rather than building one. I'm having a pretty hard time :(

Patience is critical, Rome wasn't built in a day. Your best bet truly is the piecemeal approach since not everyone will have your dimensions/size. Everybody is different. It also allows you to target how you want something done...aka do you want to make/paint some parts and the level of detail/accuracy followed. As shown in this thread the seller of the gear was not going for a lot of accuracy in the outfit which was not obvious to the casual Boba Fett observer.

I'm saw that suit above on eBay. And for the reasons you can see here on this thread avoid it. But what I did was make a new thread in the cargo hold saying I was looking to purchase a boba or jango that was close to complete or fully complete.about a week or so later I had made a purchase and a week after that...image.jpgbam!

And yeah I know I've still got work like gauntlet assembly and dying a flightsuit but I'm now way ahead of most of the real work

Understandable, but I have the finances available to just purchase it complete, so I'd rather disregard being patient and shoot right over to the dark side ;)

I think you misunderstand what I am saying. I started my Boba Fett outfit back in November and expect to have it completed in the next month (I am waiting on my jet pack and helmet). Having a complete Boba Fett costume within 8 months is very fast on this forum, especially considering the quality of the items I am utilizing for my costume. Virtually everything will be Tier 2 or Tier 3 certified for 501st standards. Within that time period I have seen approximately 3 Boba Fett complete outfits for sale within the Cargo Hold, none of them would have fit me completely without having to pay for about 1/4 of the outfit on top of what I was getting. In addition, frankly only one was of a high quality/standard. It's far cheaper and faster to piecemeal it out over the same time period than try to buy a complete set...this is why people piece it out in the first place.

The two chrome toggle switches on right gauntlet are incorrect too. The shin tools are not based on the real props, but made up ones for a SW book by DK that came 20 years after the movie.
