Guys,
I am having a bit of trouble with my neck seal. It is from Arkady. The quality is outstanding (just like the rest of the soft goods I got from her, flight suit, vest, pouches..). The only thing is, I really just don't like the neck seal. I just think my neck is too big for it so it doesn't look screen accurate. There is a certain bulkiness to the original that I cannot duplicate with this seal. I was thinking of just making my own. Here are a few pictures to compare what I am talking about. I really want to nail this look and at this point this neck seal just isn't doing the job. It did come with some velcro but I have removed it because it made the seal too stiff so I added some hook and eyes to try and duplicate the slight tugging that is going on in the original. I just really feel like this isn't thick enough in girth and it is not long enough in height (the 5 rows should be wider) and the overlap should overlap much more. This is overlapping on the next about an inch. The original seems like it overlaps atlas 2 inches.
Some Questions:
1. Should the neck seal be sewn to the inch or so flap that goes around the neck of the flight suit? Or should the neck seal be sewn to the flack vest?
2. What is actually screen accurate? Was the neck seal a separate part that gets tuck in? If so does it such into the flight suit or does it tuck under the flak vest.
3. This neck seal as is just will not do so I would really like some recommendations and pictures if possible of vendors here that sell an extremely accurate neck seal that has the same bulky look as the original.
4. Have any of you successfully duplicated this look on your own suit?
Attached is a picture of the Man of War neck seal and it look pretty good to me and seems like it would be long enough for my jaw to constrict to create the bulky look. Please take a look at my mannequin and tell me what you guys think. I really appreciate it. I tend to get hung up on these details. I really believe it's the less obvious background things like that that make or break a costume.
Thanks again.
