My scratchbuilt rocketpack thus far...

Hey guys, I shot some photos of my scratchbuilt jet pack to see what you all thought. It's been sitting in this stage for about two years now, maybe longer - life got busy and I am only now getting back to it. I made my own templates and assembly drawings and I'm pretty pleased with the result so far - I just wish it wasn't so heavy! I did it fairly cheaply too, less than $25 so far - that's my wife's favorite part about it. :p

Materials used:
  • 3mm Sintra
  • 3 sizes of PVC pipe (there's some smaller diameter pipe connecting the three main cylinders to serve as an attachment point for the harness - I didn't trust it to pull on just the sintra)
  • Posterboard (that's the green)
  • Paintable Silicon adhesive caulking for vinyl - that was before I knew of shoe goo and Weld-On
  • Blood, sweat and tears...and more blood just for good measure.
Let me know what you guys think.

Sitting for at least 2 years in Arizona. If the air quality is just as bad as it is out my way, that thing must have accumulated 1/2-an-inch of dust.:p

Thanks for the kind words guys!

lookin' great so far! how much would you say it weighs?
I'm glad you asked because it forced me to actually weigh it rather than just compare it to my styrofoam prototype. I'm going to change my opinion - it is far from heavy, it doesn't even weigh enough to register on my electronic bathroom scale! I judge it to be about 8 pounds.

Maybe I just need to excersize more

Sorry for the delayed response.

The center pipe is a 4" pipe and the sides are 2" pipes. As I understand it, pipes are measured by the inside diameter, so the outer diameter is dependant upon the thickness of the pvc (I think this is referred to as the schedule, i.e. schedule 40 is a standard grade of pvc pipe). Just for reference, the OD of my pipes are 4-3/16" (4.1875") and 2-3/8" (4.375").
