My ROTJ journal

I have now got the micro switch installed, the circuit board is all working now all I have to do is connect it all together and I should be able to drop the range finder and have me some flashing lights.....I hope..

these type connectors are being used, I just took out the pins and soldered in the wires directly.

I cut the slot for it backwards :wacko so made a 'small' mess putting it in... no problem it will be filled and never see it anyway

I will hook it all up next week I am away for a few days now, more updates after Christmas and maybe some info from Boba Maker regarding my armor

I cracked it! I have flashy range finder lights :cool (y)

I know there are vendors on here that make and sell these I am not sure if it's ok for me to post a tutorial? if its ok with folks for me to do that then let me know, Thing is I can make these for about £10 and don't want to undercut anyone by making a ''how to'' description that may annoy some people :confused........ let me know

anyway here is a video

This is a forum where DIY stuffs is a must, so I don't think you will cross someone's business. No one knows everything, which means that from 100 people maybe 5 will do a working rangefinder light using your tutorial, while the other 95 will buy one in lack of technical knowledge or because they don't care.

On a side note (and I saw this on others builds too), the 2 red LEDs should be leveled with the rangefinder casing, while yours have at least half of the LED visible. Another thing is that the LED sequence is a bit too fast; the Supertrooper sequence has around 1/2 seconds for each LED.

Keep up the great work!

Ok I may post up a ''how to guide'' then, the good thing about this kit is I can slow it up or speed it down (y) so I will change that, and I can pop the LED's back in a bit no problem thanks for the constructive criticism Raf :D

A non-manual antenna movement?

It will move the range finder yes (y) I will need to put the dial some place maybe even into the gauntlet I am not sure yet...

anyway good news!! all the way from Denver

I have the Rubies Helmet, my work friends family was coming over from the states to visit for Christmas, so he got them to swing by a Target and pic one up, its been from state to state from country to country from town to town and finally they dropped it off :D

a few mods and a paint job ans it will become a display piece

I now have my first helmet that I have named the 'Beluga Helmet'' as it has a bit of a butt head to it pulled in from the thick visor, my WIP troop helmet (with all the electronics to go in) and the display helemt from Target,

not sure what to do with the Beluga one yet, maybe have it as a back up helmet..plus the dent in massive  ah well it was a first try I guess.

I have still lot's of things on order that I am waiting for, still have not herd from Boba Maker about my order and I am getting a ''tad worried'' now as I need it 100% finished and trialed before March 5th...

I did make a simple resin connector that came out a treat...
20151230_151653_zpsnihu3p1n.jpg

It will be paint time soon, I now need to mod this new Target helmet to look right so I can spray both at the same time. ....more things to do, and the clock is ticking fast!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

More good news! Boba Maker has been in contact, my order will be ready finished early Jan, no mention of when it will be posted but its something :D.
I have had a gizmo in the mail that will help with my range finder project, I want it to come down and blink... I have the blinking part working now I need to get the arm to come down and up again... and I have that 50% finished today..

For about £5 you can buy a servo tester that you can test the full range of a servo with, and with one twsit of the dial you can rotated it 90 degrees, I did consider a simple switched version but I wanted to activated it with fine movements and from the gauntlet that you can see working...

20160101_151441_zpsboyb9p2a.jpg

its far to big to mount on the gauntlet so I took it apart to fin inside it some place..

20160101_151509_zpsjnok8oxa.jpg

still to big and could not find anywhere to put it inside the already tight fitting gauntlets,

I can't put it inside a pocket or in the belt without fumbling about to try and work it, I did however find space inside the left flame unit..... now I know it will not look accurate anymore with a dial sticking out of it but oce I have filled in all the lights and now unused button I can make a slim low profile version of the dial once its installed and should make very little impact on the over all look... I hope...

and as you can see from the video in the link below it works great, after a few tweaks and some cosmetic repairs it should be just what I need.

That servo work is awesome congrats on making a very cool addition to your suit. I now have to go back and read the rest of your thread.

I will be subscribing to this thread.

Thanks Stormcrow85 some of these things that look complicated often have a simple solution...

However DISASTER!! I have been hospitalised gahhhh....I have aquired a blood clot in my left arm.... its forgive the pun "bloody" painful.... no idea when I am out as it's a tricky one....

So once again it's on hold.... March is fast approaching and I see no sign of getting this finished for its showcase at Swind-con....... its become a pilgrimage now ha

Back soon!

This is just an idea but another spot for your know could have been the side wall of one of your ammo pouches. DeathProof did this for activating his jetpack fog machine.

Hey, a little help. Ha.

Where did you buy your gauntlet rocket and the keypad?

Most important though, what size copper tubing did you use on the right gauntlet and what are those connectors? I couldn't quite figure out the photos of how you connected the copper pipes to the gauntlet. If you have another photo or could explain it it'd be appreciated.

I stole your bolted on back connector for mine. Works just awesome. Thanks!

I am out of Hospital :( I have a DVT in my left shoulder cut a massive long story short I have a long road ahead of me to sort it all out, not a nice feeling living with a ticking time bomb in your body :unsure just hope they can 'fix me' ... my arm has been and still is so swollen I cant get my left gauntlet on  at all!!!

fingers crossed, seems like everything is going against me to not have this finished my March... I will have it done damn it!..

anyway back on this...
JSmails

ok the pipe I used is a reduction pipe (copper) used on sinks mainly its 15MM and tapers down to about 12mm

first I bolt the upper pipe to the gauntlet as you can see with the two nut and bolts as viewed from the inside

20160108_082239_zpsjlpjos2u.jpg

I then place the line thrower shroud over the top of it and hold it in place with a bit of hot glue, leaving a little space or gap at the bottom to slide in some nuts so I can bolt the bottom pipe on through the bottom through the shroud and tighten up

20160108_082259_zpshgkvjdw2.jpg

so in sort top pipe bolted to gauntlet, shroud fixed to top pipe (with gap) bolt through bottom pipe and shroud with nut?

The reason for such a heavy fixing is the hose will flex like crazy and put a lot of strain on that area , this way it wont snap or brake the gauntlet

the connectors I used are in no way screen accurate but the are shower hose ends that have a an inner retaining ring. and half inch male male joiner

20160108_082214_zpshqylcnnw.jpg

if you look up my posts you will see how I made it so the hoses will stay in place and be able to rotate and move, again causing less fracture and stress, This part of the outfit needs to be more practical than you think.

I really don't want to start falling to bits at an event (y)

I hope it makes sense, the parts are all basically bolted to one another. like Lego I guess..

the gauntlet rocket was from a popular online auction site, just happen to come across a casts, it needed work but was dirt cheep £15 I think

the calc was from TDH member..

Ok folks I am having trouble with servo, in my video I show I have a servo working with my servo testor that I have hot wired to work as my range finder switch, I went and got a little micro servo to save space but the damn thing dont work with my little gizmo I bought? any thoughts, I have x2 of these little servos brand new they can be broke...they just dont seem to work at all with the servo tester? they are digital ones maybe that has something to do with it?

top one typical servo...bottom new micro servo

I have hit the point in the build where I need think about electronics, still waiting for my parts from Boba Maker so its giving me time to look through the mountain of wires needed to go in this thing, so I start with the helmet. x2 fans + power, x1 servo + loom, electronics for range finder + power, external audio pic up + power, and the aker mic system :behave

20160110_101937_zps4sjx7smp.jpg

start with the fans and I like to make things as serviceable as possible for quick interchangeable parts so I used connectors on everything..

20160110_123711_zpsedqtzpeb.jpg

20160110_150203_zpskyugrg5s.jpg

everything works (y)

I used a very low tech way to keep the wires in across the dome using blue tack, head band will be glued over it anyway. So thats two fans up and running with a toggle switch under the right ear
It sends out a nice draft everything is in with velcro so I can make tweaks if I need to

20160110_161542_zpsjop6q0zv.jpg

up next will be the servo.....still can't work out why the micro servo wont work with my servo tester??
