My Fett Begins... (Pic Heavy)

Hello TDH! I finally have begun significant progress on my first ever Boba Fett costume. I've made cosplay costumes in the past before but have always set my sites on having a no-hold-back-on-cash Boba Fett. I'm going to work on a classic ROTJ style Boba Fett. However, If I try painting up my rubies helmet ROTJ style and don't like it, I will do an SE version instead. But I think I can pull it off! Anyway, my materials!

I have a beautiful set of armor by Redkraytdragon (The shoulder pads are fiberglass, made by rjcustomfiberglass from ebay. This was before I was an active member of TDH, but I think they are nice and have the dents where they should be! No regret on the buy!);

I know the image is small but I got the jetpack harness and resin cast MQ-1 circuit boards are from Darth Voorhees (harness made by Armydad), the ankle spats are from Swprops on ebay (I believe you all know him as Cucblack on TDH community), and I have decals made by Lusksy31 as well! The ammo belt is from starbase on ebay. Not the most accurate belt in the world (again, before I became an active member here) but for $30 to have leather and fully functional pouches is a good deal to me!

Here's a pic of the Man of War jetpack before I assembled it. I put the jetpack together with two part epoxy so it's not going anywhere!

I just propped the missile up to show my friends at school. I'm actually known as Boba Fett at school too (Geeky but I love it)!

I also took a page from RKD's notes and used rare earth magnets to attach my armor to my vest. My vest came from Cucblack (Swprops) and I used the two part epoxy on one of the fiberglass shoulder pads and stuck two of the magnets on there (My magnets are half an inch in diameter and 1/8 inch thick. Each has an individual pull force of 5 pounds).

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the results of the test, thus I plan to do this for the rest of the breast plate. I'll have to think a little more on the back plate and collar piece on how I'm going to attach that...

You guys can also check out my stuff at jonnypezzatti.wordpress.com. I use that blog for schoolwork. I'm a 3D animator (I only have one piece up but I plan to put two more projects up there as soon as the semester ends. Check it out though, I have mostly gesture drawing for the most part and a few other "learning processes" posted up as well lol!

I know most people here swear by the bolt method but I ended up using rare earth magnets to attach mine together (Just be sure to keep them out of the way of the studs so you can drill a screw up for the cape). It makes it extremely easy and quick to put it on yourself, though you may need stronger magnets. I used 12-pounders myself.

I don't plan on having magnets near the threading of the studs where the back plate meets the collar piece. I plan on having a bracket or something that has bolts on each side and thread up to one of the studs (this way I can effectively attach the cape and things). I'm not sure about using magnets on the collar piece because I found that if I move my shoulder, even a little, the collar wants to rise up a lot. If I have magnets, they might fall off and clash and chip the other magnets in the breast plate region though I could be wrong...

Ah, okay. My Boba has regular plastic keyboard keys on his collar piece right now, so I couldn't do the bracket thing. Had to improvise with what was available, and I thought it worked out really well.

Good luck!

Looks awesome. I think I will be trying magnets when I get my armor....seems like a much more forgiving method.
I look forward to following your progress!!

Great start on your build Jon!! Thanks for sharing and I'll be watching your progress :) Thanks again for your business and I'm so glad that you like the armor. Have fun!

Looks like your off to a good start Jon! Btw..the harness was made by Fettdad, not Armydad ;)

im likely going to try the magnet approach as well to attach some of the armor when i get a new vest. Started a diet this week so when i lose a good amount ill be replacing my current vest.

Oops! Thanks for the clarification Voorhees! Also, I forgot to mention that I got a rangefinder LED light setup from Darth Voorhees as well (I'll probably PM Terminal Fettler about his cold cast hollow RF stalk, since the LEDs were designed for his helmet anyway).

Would his stalk fit a FP or a BM helmet as well?

RKD; Thank you! If I ever need armor again, I'll be sure to PM you! I'll start to have some real fun during the summer when I can get paid more and really knock out some progress!

I just hope I can paint a really nice ROTJ helmet. You wouldn't believe how hard it was trying to decide between SE or ROTJ (or maybe you do lol)!

Yep, can't say Ive actually produced anything as of yet, still need a harness myself, the only thing I can really say Ive made myself are my keyboard key/collar studs.

Sounds good bro! Thanks again!

If anything, I should be thanking you man! I wouldn't have made this much progress without you! For anyone reading this thread, If you are looking for armor, give Redkraytdragon a PM. His armor has dents in the right accurate places (maybe not every little proper shape but the size and location of the dents are spot on!), and his armor is made out of a great material. Most armor I see is fiberglass or metal. While this is alright, they have no give or they get really hot while trooping. RKD uses ABS and not only is it strong, it has give to it (a luxury hard to come by in a cod piece :p). I couldn't have been happier with the transaction and RKD is exceptional about providing updates on your transaction when requested!

The same goes for Darth Voorhees! I got some of his clearance items along with his Fettdad (got it right this time!) harness. For the price I had to jump on it. But price aside, Voorhees made some great stuff! his LED RF lights are so cool! I geek out every time I drop it down to initiate the lights to go off and his resin cast MQ-1 boards look great (I wanted a particular one from the picture he was selling, He didn't have to, but he gave me a second one because the one I wanted came out a little thin.). Darth Voorhees also is very responsive on updates when requested and a really great guy! I recommend both these seller with the up most respects!

Quick update on my costume; I should be getting the rest of the earth magnets I need for the costume. Mojo-Fett also contacted me and said my MoM style knee darts should be getting knocked out of the way so hopefully I'll have more pictures to post up in the near future! Other than that, I must put my costume on a short pause (I hate my car lol).

Thanks for all the help guys! I look forward to posting more progress soon!

Just a small update; I've had the absolute worst case of inner turmoil as to whether to do the classic ROTJ or SE version. After countless hours of looking at pictures and what not I finally found THE image I wish to base my Fett off of;

Boba Fett Special Edition Costume - The Dented Helmet Gallery

I've determined that SE is the road I want to go down. This particular images' color scheme, though color corrected, has the tone and feel I want out of my costume!

Question; what helmet kit would you guys think would look the absolute closest to the shape of this images helmet?

Thank you once again for the info TDH! I get out of my classes in two weeks. Stay tune for significant progress over the summer!

Small update; finally finished the semester! This means more posts and more progress pics! I can finally start hammering away at my Fett!

Small question for senior members; Has anyone heard from Mojo-Fett in a while? I've sent an email and PM's asking for a status update on some knee darts I bought a month ago. If anyone else who can get through to him just let Gav know that Archaster777 would like to have an update on them :D! I know he has real work and other stuff so I'm not mad (at least until I have legitimate reason to be concerned).

Thinking I'll post up work on a Boba Hasbro blaster I got a while back! Stay tuned for updates!

Hello again TDH! I haven't posted in a while but I got more progress to post! First off, I realized I didn't post pictures of my helmet. It's a rubies (I got it back as a small child when I went to my first syfy convention. I was a fan of Boba Fett even then :)).

archaster777_rubieshelmet1.jpg

I cut out the visor with the help of a buddy of mine who was nice enough to lend me his dremel. It already looks better (not hard to do with a rubies I suppose lol).

archaster777_helmetwovisor.jpg

Also got the back slots for the jetpack harness to feed through cut. Though it's still a bit small (was scared at first for I did not want to ruin my armor...) so I may have to go back and finish that off.

archaster777_backplatewithcutholes.jpg

Other than that, as far as the armor goes, I sanded down the butt plate today and hope to sand down the knee pad parts tomorrow. Once I do that, that just leaves some final touches and cutting out the slots for the chest display and my armor will be ready for painting!

I've really hit the blaster hard. At first, I thought that I wouldn't even mess with a blaster since they are a bit pricey and conventions have such strict weapon policies anymore that it didn't seem worth it. But the store I worked at has Boba Fett blasters from hasbro so I figured "Paint that up and I could get use to weathering armor and get into the groove of painting!"

archaster777_blaster.jpg

Looks bad, I know. But after priming it with white and then a coat of grey, it doesn't look nearly as bad!

archaster777_blasterwhite.jpg

archaster777_blastergrey.jpg

I could have sworn I took a picture of the first coat of weathering (I'll put it in the next post tomorrow or so. I think it turned out surprisingly well!). I plan to do another round of weathering with brown and dark grey to finish it off. I also will finally make money tomorrow and I plan to order a Fettronic light board so I can cut the display out of the chest armor! Once I get that stuff out of the way, painting goes by very quickly for me (at least so far), hopefully I'll be able to power through the rest for sure during mid summer! Stay tuned for future post!

Also, if you guys have any criticisms or ideas, let me know! Can't make it better without your comments! Thank you!

Here's the first layer of weathering. I'm pretty pleased with the results. I plan on adding two more layers after this however. One a dark grey to give more definition and a layer of brown for dirt. Also sent in an order form for a V3.2 Fettronics board for my armor. I'm very excited to continue pushing this project forward. Almost through the rough stages!
