My budget Rubies conversion.

Hi Fetts,
This started life as a Rubies supreme costume. I knew it would be rubbish when i bought it so I was prepared to put some work in....it's taken me a few months but I'm at last happy with it :)
I know it's not exactly screen accurate, but I hope you all like the result....all in all I've spent about £500 on it, so it's a really decent price...I've made bits, picked up bargains in the cargo hold and painted and fixed as I went along.
It'll never be finished as I'll keep changing bits as I go along...but I'm really pleased and proud of it. I'd appreciate your feedback folks.

A couple of pointers to make the costume better.

1) Ditch the girth belt you have. Buy a real girth belt and dye/paint it yourself. Cost about £15 to 20.
2) Ditch the ammo belt and create your own leather belt using the templates on this site. Cost about £25 to 30.
3) Ditch the cape you have and buy a US Army Shelter half. The cape is supposed to be green not brown. Cost about £15 to 20.
4) Fix your hose issue. Go to your local home improvement store and buy some new hoses. There are supposed to be 3 hoses on the right gauntlet and zero on the left. Make sure the hoses tuck up under the right sleeve. Cost about £5 to 10.
5) Ditch the Rubies Outfit. Cost Priceless

Thanks for the advice dude... Yeah I deffo still have some bits to change and alter... Can I ask what you think is wrong with the ammo belt? I'm not sure what making another one would change? X

Simply put your belt looks like a Jango Fett belt at best.

Boba's Pockets are significantly more narrow, have stiching on the front, and do not have rounded flaps but more angled flaps.
 
@paucarmelbea, hey bud I think guys can go on and on what you can improve or what is wrong with the build. But if you are not looking for accuracy and perfection, especially if budget is an issue, this is what I have to say: It looks great and 100% better than what the Rubies looks like out of the box. Iv seen photo posted on Instagram of guys trooping in the straight out of the box Rubies edition with no shame and you shouldn't be shamed to troop around with this. It wont get 501st approved, but I think you can still have fun with it until more funds become available to upgrade if that is your goal. Good work. The only change I would make without having to make any new purchases, would be to just lower the girth belt over the cod piece if you could and then place the ammo belt slightly over the girth belt and definitely some weathering all around on the flight suit. But overall, not too shabby for a Rubies upgrade.

I completely agree, my suggestions were meant as relatively inexpensive ways to significantly improve the quality/accuracy of what you have.

While that may be so, I find that this is not the first time that some of your comments have come off as prudish. What I read was a few points on what he should get rid of, and then followed up by ditching his whole costume because it's a rubies. While that might be a joke, as TAguirre stated earlier, not everyone has the budget for a 501st costume. If you're going to give constructive criticism, I suggest using a bit more tact....especially after the guy says that he's really proud of what he did.

Kudos for taking on a rubies, and turning it into something much better.

Thanks for the constructive feedback, do you think I was wrong on my suggestions 1 through 4? I apologize if the point 5 was not taken as a joke, although Canadian humor and American humor can be slightly different Ehh?
 
@DeathProof I thought I was the only one who was observing this with Crumdum's comments on some threads he replies to. @crumdum some of your replies can be seen as sarcastic, condescending or prudish whether you are American (like me) or Canadian (like Deathproof). But in your defense, like with all communication whether it be text or message boards, it can easily be misinterpreted. However, some of your posts can be seen as what both me and Deathproof described. Tact or saying something without it being offense or a put down can be applied in your responses sometimes. I am not an oversensitive person and am very thick thinned, so I could care less, but in a forum that is suppose to be helpful and supportive, certain comments can be done without and out of respect for users. Your suggestions for 1-4 are great, 5 was unnecessary, especially when he is proud of what he did with his Rubies.

Hey Paul, looking at your Fett and hearing how you feel about it is great. I honestly believe that this hobby is all about creating something YOU'RE proud of. Some strive for screen accuracy, some like to mix it up, others work within the confines of their budgets. The list is endless but that's why we do it. Of course like any of us, we are improving and tweaking our costumes all the time and I do wonder if it will EVER end.

Guys, I really want to thank you for your kind words.......I am really pleased with what I've done with all the help from here. I am always looking for ways to improve it, but that can be done over years now, i'm in no rush as it's perfectly serviceable as it is for now :)

They fit great Ian...it's my favorite bit of the costume :)
