With a little help from my friends - ROTJ SE WIP

Looking really good.

Had to edit response for SE  Stuck in ESB land over here!

Haha yea, so you think they're okay with the tones? I have seen some SE's with a bit more orange like you originally suggested, but the photos do make it out to be a little more yellow than they actually are. I just do many light coats so as to not overdo it...

Yes, I think you're good and I think your correct...the flash is making them appear brighter than gallery photos.

Give it a go with some good light in the room, and no flash. Then see if you're satisfied.

Flamethrower tips are ready to be applied.
I went for something a little more like hot blued exhaust pipes... Trying to get that really hot metal look going.
Used all Alclad paints for these since I haven't found something better to mimic metallics.
Base of gloss black
Light spray of gunmetal
Light spray of stainless steel
Main coat of chrome
Light spray on tip with copper, then hot metal violet, then hot metal blue, and finally a light pass of jet exhaust.

I've seen some great Fetts with lights and things within them, does anyone know who makes a kit? I believe I would have to drill holes through the tubes since they're solid.

Oh... And also, this huge fire raging outside my house has drastically worsened the air quality and risen the heat in my area so painting might get slowed down because 109 degrees is not fun in the garage with smoke and ash...

@crumdum might be able to help you out with a flamethrower light kit. He's working on something right now but can't mass produce them due to not being able to drill out the flamethrower nozzles efficiently enough. So if you're going to drill them I bet he could make a kit.

Yeah, I'm going to attempt to drill through them and pm crumdum about his kit. I love the bells and whistles of Deathproof's Fett so I want to build something similar.
Thank you for the name and info!

I already have 2 sets of nozzles all set to go, I haven't posted them for sale yet because of my weeks vacation two weeks ago followed by 4 troops the following week. Here I am as Greedo escorting @bh1660 at the Phillies game.

I have 2 sets of Dakotas metal nozzles...the most accurate you can get on the boards in hand if you want something.

Great! So that is a full light kit with metal nozzles? How much are you offering them for?
Thank you for taking the time to respond to this thread.

Give me a little time and I will update my sales thread that I started the Flamethrower discussion in. Without a drill press you really dont want to drill int resin (as my messy test results attest to) you would not have been happy with the results.

Crum I didn't know Dakota had gotten you the nozzles. Shoot me a PM sometime because I need a set of nozzles and buttons.

I sent a PM with the info since I only have 2 pairs atm...Drax already had first dibs on one. Let me know via PM or I will throw them on the boards.

Yellow is down on the armor.
Question: should I remove the silver masking and then remask? Or simply mask the yellow on top and paint green then demask?

Nice! Great work! One step closer!

Thank you!
Very true!

So I did a test on the butt plate without demasking the silver and remasking and just did it all in one go.
I gotta say, God bless for Humbrol Maskol. This stuff is magical. Holds and comes off fresh every time with crisp lines and minimal detail loss, even with multiple layers. It worked well on this plate so I think I'll do the same for the rest. The helmet I'll do traditionally since the detail is very strict.

All the masking done on the armor and finished putting down the green.

I wonder how Boba must have felt when he freshly painted his armor... Probably similar to me, "time to dirty it up!!!" Haha!

Finishing up the peeling. Coming out nicely with minimal spots needed for touch up. Saved a bunch of time by merely layering the maskol.

Weathering/highlighting with grey and black done. Black directional splatter also applied and first layer of semi-gloss clear coat. Decal weathered and applied then outlined with white chalk pencil.
