Homemade chest display - esb

Technical update: I finally got the smaller 7 segment LEDs. They took forever because I (accidentally) ordered them from China. Plugged them into the breadboard and after a short re-wiring, the prototype is fully functional. (yay!) I've also been playing around with Eagle CAD to lay out the circuit. It's probably about 80% there. I printed it out and the LED's and Adruino fit the profile in the circuit.

Up next is to finish the lay out and transfer it to copper. Option A is to print the circuit on glossy magazine paper and transfer (via hot iron) to the copper. Option B is to have a friend print it on his vinyl cutter. Either way, after the transfer, in it goes to the acid bath for etching. (I'm very excited for this part)

Errrr. Well the image transfer didn't go so well. I got about 80% of the image transferred very well, 10% transferred so-so, and 10% didn't transfer at all. Tried glossy magazine paper and even tried photo paper printed at the office supply store.

Off to China they go for professional fabrication. Another update in three weeks or so...

The boards came back much earlier than I expected. They look great. Hopefully I can assemble everything tomorrow. Very excited!!
