ESB(Now ROTJ!) Progress thread

So is the 'kidneyplate' supposed to sit just above my buttcrack rather than my actual kidney area like this ref pic (dumb question I know)? Because that pants sagging type of feeling is driving me NUTS.

Yeah, Fett rolled gangsta style with his pants all down around his knees! I haven't got there yet, but I'm going to use my COD to locate the kidney plate. Registration will be simply a matter of is it a level circle all the way around. Then I'm installing snaps in my flight suit to help support COD and back piece. Armor is looking great. I think I'll be re-painting my stuff after Halloween. I'm in the middle of scratching a JP right now, so more fun painting to come.

Finished up the last piece of armor recently... really like how it turned out. Everything was free handed except for the crest.

Test fit. The knees are currently just held on with duct tape until I can go out and buy more pins and velcro to attach it to the suit

looking good! I'm not sure about doing your knees with the pins. I mean, what if you had to kneel down, seems like that would really hurt your kneecaps. I'm going with velcro I think. Have you got your JP done yet? I've been building mine and really enjoying the process. Lot of problem solving and head scratching!

Out of curiosity why aren't you using elastic to attach the knee armour ?

Don't want to deal with stitching the velcro to the knee area. The velcro adhesive does not adhere very well to fabric

Velcro works very well not only to hold the knee armor up, but to stabilize them against twisting, but you're right you need to stitch down the tabs on the flightsuit as the adhesive will not hold for the long run. I tried that, and it failed, and then I needed to stitch them down.

Yeah I have no doubt about the strength of it's hold, I just don't wanna stitch anything right now lol.

Hey guys, I learned about something cool from a female co-worker the other day. It is this stuff, comes in a roll like tape, and it is basically iron on "glue" for lack of a better word. You can use it in place of sewing. I bought some but haven't tried it yet. But I intend to attach my knee velcro with it.

I also used small patches of velcro to hold my knee armor on, but mostly to hold the cap in position. I have snaps on the sides, the knee armor side mounted to aluminum bars inside the knee armor. I put the aluminum in there after breaking one of my knee armors when I dropped it. Now they're pretty burly. The snaps hold the sides in position, the velcro holds the caps in place above my actual kneecap, and the elastic across the back is mostly for looks.

i am in the same situation but thought wot the heck , I can use self adhesive Velcro and then attempt to sew them in place as it won't really matter wot it looks like as no one will see it
