ESB Armor Repaint

With New York Comic Con only a week away, an update is in order for my ESB armor. Now, my helmet is a whole other story and I need to set aside more time than a week for it, but I can get this armor done! I didn't have the time to wait for humbrols, so I went a Model Master route. A little risky considering theres no definitive MM list, but here's what I have so far:View attachment 92475View attachment 92476View attachment 92477 uploadfromtaptalk1443666179724.jpg
Honestly, I'm pretty happy with how it's coming out. I used the ref pic off of the 501st for the knees, film shots for the shoulder, and worked off of DVH and Mattys pics for the chest piece. Thoughts and (gentle) criticisms welcome! [emoji28]

what model master colors did you use ?
For the shoulders and knees:
Base Yellow- Yellow Zinc Chromate
Orange Mist- GO Mango Orange (heavy on right shoulder and right knee, light on left knee)

For the Left Chest and Ab: (right chest TBD)
Base Yellow- Yellow Zinc Chromate
Base Green- Panzer Olivgrun 1943

I used acrylics to weather all of them
R. Shoulder and R. Knee: a 3:1 mix of Delta Burnt Orange to Charcoal

Chest and Ab: Tamiya German Grey I think, I'll double check that too

The base silver was Rustoleum Bright Coat Metallic Finish Aluminum, 7715
I sprayed this, masked, primed and then began with the model paints. When I didn't prime all of the model paint peeled off. Hope this helped!

Heres a pic of DVH's armor, which is really the scheme I was hoping for:

I'd say it's pretty close to how I wanted it, a couple of differences here and there but overall I think it CAN be done with Model Masters! :D Good news for all of us no-humbrol guys haha

It's too bad that Model Masters and Pollyscale retired most of the colors for the original pallet, they were just about perfect. I'm currently working on finding replacement colors in acrylic as we shouldn't be using enamels anyway. Enamels aren't screen accurate and they don't have the same properties as acrylics do.

Good job with your paint up though, please show more progress.

Thanks! I honestly had no idea about the acrylics. Honestly, with the amount of cons/appearances I make around here I have to use a pallet I can easily find and replicate, I have to go more for function over fashion. I'm trying to get as close as I can to where I like it, and so far I've only found enamels. If you ever get those acrylics let me know! Much easier to clean out of the airbrush haha

Please let me know what you find! I'm making the switch to acrylics right now, in preparation for my GMH. So far I've just got the red from Pontes thread and model master acrylic concrete

I've been working hard at working on a new list, I originally used the SpideyFett list and so many of those colors are now gone. I have about 4 bottles left of the Model Masters US Med Green, and I've found some close matches along with the misting colors. I'll be posting progress when I get my new sets of armor soon.

UPDATE: Working on painting the blaster, jetpack greebs, flamethrower, and thrusters. It was way too cold last night for anything to dry, so today hopefully will be better. I'll be airbrushing the right chest, ab, and collar later and hopefully get a nice metallic coat on my flamethrower. I hope to have pics up later, thanks for being patient! Haha

I have a final update! Since I started so late, I didn't get perfection, especially not on the pack. But considering I maybe spent $20-30 on it, I think it came out just swell :) all whethering on the pack was topical, airbrushed the keys and the red on the thrusters. The rest of the pack was spray cans. Here are some pics from New York Comic Con! Please feel free to post any thoughts! Nothin too rough though... lol[emoji23]
