B]<B>Merged:</B> Picked up a jumpsuit and gloves[/b]

Jango_Fett_Jr,
Try going to your local police station and ask them if they have any old white parade gloves kicking around that you can have. I once got a nice set of old handcuff keys from my local police for a display I was doing on Houdini. When I told them what it was for they became quite interested and helpful. Give it a try tell them what you are building, they might think its cool and help you out.
Good luck,
ST

Is there a general agreement on what is the material of the screen used Boba Fett jumpsuit? I think cotton looks too light and from the pictures on the Ref CD the jumpsuit looks heavy.

Well, I have to see by the opinions from the MODS at the TDH dinner at DC this weekend, and then I'll tell you if I got the right coverall (Brak's Buddy will be there, I think). At least I'll have something to see if it's the right material to show the guys there and verify it's accuracy.

Some people says that I have a really good kick-ass costume (I don't think so :facepalm I've seen better ones around), but lets see what happens this weekend and what the mods have to say about that that night.

From all indications, it appears to be a cotton twill (cotton drill for the UKers).

Greetings all, just wanted to offer a fair warning for those of you looking for a jumpsuit still. First of all, their are a couple of threads I've seen that say that the Walls® jumpsuit that is offered through JCPenny's online is a fair choice for those looking for a suit. From what I gather, this suit is not offered through the JCPenny's site anymore. So if you are dead set on this brand, you will have to search elsewhere. They do however offer another suit made by Parasuit®, which is what I ordered, and seems to be a good alternative. They are offered in Tan for RotJ and Steel Blue if you are going ESB. I ordered the Steel Blue and I think it looks great. OK, now please dim the lights and cue the spooky music as I get to my warning. If you are going with the Steel Blue, I would advise that you order two long sleeve suits. Reason for this is because when I ordered the short sleeve and long sleeve, for obvious reasons, I was extremely fustrated to see that upon receiving them, the Steel Blue short sleeve, is considerably darker than the long sleeve, to the point of being close to a denim blue . So in short, you will need to go with the long. Two of them that is. No idea if this is the case with the Tan suits. ESB'rs beware.

I was thinking of buying 2 of the Dickies coveralls at the top of this page:

http://dickiesonsale.com/cottoncoveralls.htm

One of the colors they are available in is gray. Has anyone bought these gray ones for an ROTJ suit? How close is the color to the photos on the Boba Fett resource CD/site from the Smithsonian?

If the color needs to be lightened, how would I go about doing this? I've never bleached anything before. How much water/bleach should I mix and how long should I leave the coveralls to soak?

They start at sizes 38-50. Is this waist or chest size!? Do they cater for anything less than 38" waist if that is waist size?

Thanks :)

I found a site in the UK selling Dickies coveralls. Can you guys please take a look and let me know which I should be ordering?

http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/scripts/products.php?cat=Dickies%20Workwear

If none of them are suitable, how about this US site:

http://coverallstore.com/

I'm doing ROTJ. Should I get:

2 pairs of charcoal grey and lighten them? What should I use to lighten them? How much of it should I use and how?

Or...

2 pairs of white and dye them? What color should I use to dye them? How much of it, how long etc?

Thanks

Dickies in the UK? Wow! good research! Well found!

I'd say go with the white and dye it grey. I recently dyed a white j/suit grey. I'm pleased with the results, but did it in a very unscientific way. In the bucket in the garden. I used about 3/4 of a small pot of standard Dylon Dye (available in Woolworths) in boiling water from the kettle, topped up with hot tap water. Put jumpsuit in bucket for a few mins, took it out and checked it, put it back in, repeat until you have a colour you like, rinse out, allow to dry in the sun. It was too dark, so I left it in the sun for a few days and it now looks OK.

If I was to re-do it, I'd use white jumpsuits again, but get a machine wash dye from Dylon (again in Woolies). They do a colour called slate grey which looks pretty good.

If it's too dark, leave it in the sun to bleach it. If it's too light, you can re-dye it or darken it with a misting of acrylic paint from an airbrush, or just get it dirty with dirt or charcoal etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Simon. But which coverall is the correct one I should be buying? Which one is it that all you guys have been going for?

I'll defer to someone else with a better knowledge of J/suits.

I got my "off the shelf one" ages ago before I found this place and got the whole accuracy bug thing.

I've now got some great fabric and will shortly be getting a custom made Jump suit.

Which dickies? I don't know, but suspect you'd be wise to get 2 and use the second one as a donor for the sleeves and pockets etc.

Good luck.

Yep I plan on getting two which is what a lot of folk here seem to be doing. Using the 2nd one to make the pockets and pouches as well as the extra sleeves.

Why Dickies? I don't know, because they seem to be a popular choice with other people here.

That is the chest size.

Not to be rude to your question, but all the info you just asked is in this thread. Just read it.

Cool! That is what I picked up this weekend at Joann fabrics, a light grey cotton twill material. I got a shirt and pants pattern that I will use as pattern. This will be my first attempt at sewing something on this grand a scale myself. wish me luck.

Hi I looked through every fabric shop here in Iceland and didn´t find anything that got close.

So I went to a tent repair factory here in Iceland and found a fabric that is used in the for the sleeping part in house tents and campers.

It is light grey it does wrinkle but I washed it and used fabric softener and it worked, couple of washes and it is perfect.

My sister is going to make me a coverall using a pattern from a regular shirt and pants and combine them together to make a coverall.

FETT JUMPSUIT / VEST PICTS

Ive got a suggestion
Since there are so many posts pertaining to these items, can we start a post with picts of each suit part ??
Would those of you who have them take/have picts without the armor on so everyone can see the actual stitching and patterning ?
This could pertain to RA, PP, other soft suit parts so people can see the differances and make up their minds who to go with.
Just post picts and say which one it is and what material, if you provided your own etc...

Sound like a good plan ??
If so, maybe put a sticky on it as ongoing comparison referance since some of us are still waiting on theirs.
We could start with this post and Ill take the question mark off the title

:)

Here is my RA vest that I sent him my own material and very specific dimentions to make it as proportional to the armor as I could.
vest2.JPG

I still had to make some adjustments to get it closer to how I wanted it, mostly to the shoulder bells, but it came out really nice.
I will adjust the bottom hem once the armor is on and I need to know how it needs to look.
THe jumpsuit is two worksuits that I had RA make for me. I will be replacing the jumpsuit with one I will be making from scratch by myself to get it as accurate as I can.

Hey Retro, I went to an army surplus store, and they had a bunch of old jumpsuits, and flightsuits. My suit is a combo of both(flightsuit sleeves, jumpsuit body). Check out surplus stores, and like Schucks auto parts, they usually have cool old worksuits for pretty cheap, and already weathered:D!
