Creating the Jumpsuit or Coveralls

Im about the same size you are and I bought the smaller one. My waist is 2 inches bigger than yours and it was still baggy on me. But they are meant to be worn over clothes. See if you can try on a pair and then if they are to baggy call a seamstress.

I just finished the jumsuit last week (actually my seamdresser). Sorry for the late, but I was sick this whole week, I feel better now.

The Jumpsuit once got sewed the pockets and the sleeves, I started the process of the bleach solution, which came out pretty good, but somehow darker, I think that I used less bleach or less time for a "just-in-case" matter, but I repeated the process one more time with the same water, same time. It didn't bleached that much afterwards, which I think it's ok. I'll be posting pics soon, cause I had to take the Jumsuit back to my seamdresser to correct a few spots...you know, sewing the stitch too close to the border of the fabric...not a good sign.

OK folks, I have my Jumpuit ready. Here are the pics, it's kinda hard after the washing with the bleach solution, which I probably have to wash it again and apply fabric softener. It's so hard, that I shaped the thigh pouches by hand, and they're empty completely.

lower part (i.e. thigh pouches)

shin tool pockets,

The Jumpsuit fits perfectly, and the tight pouches looks too low, but they're not, cause the top of the pouches are aligned with the crotch level when I have the Jumpsuit on. I probably have to fix or adjust the shin pockets cause I tested them and the pockets seems to be too big, which the tools getting "buried" inside the pockets and you could barely see them, but just the top part.

This is the link of where I got them from,

http://dickiesonsale.com/cottoncoveralls.htm

Remember that you'd probably have to invest in TWO Dickies instead of one to do the outer sleeves, thigh and shin tool pockets, etc.

Now, if you want to go the cheaper way, go to the following link to order from "Red Kap". Those are cheaper, but they don't come in Grey, unless you want them in white and them dye them grey,

Hope this helps to everyone. Any questions, just ask or shoot a PM.

I just ordered two sets of coveralls (per darthvader1's recommendation) and I only hope I can do half as good a job as he did. I can't wait as I have someone already lined up for the vest. Now I better go start my diet!!!

 Thanks, but I don't deserve the credit...it's to everyone in this forum who put a little bit of knowledge and recommendations (besides of a little help via US Mail). Just make sure that the thigh and shin tools fits to your legs, cause my size could be small to some other people.

Picked up a jumpsuit and gloves

Hey, I stopped by a shop today that sells used factory and industrial clothing, such as jumpsuits, medical scrubs, lab coats, mechanic jackets, etc.

Luckily they had tons of jumpsuit, and I grabbed a nice one in my size that I think will do nicely for a Boba ESB jumsuit, once I dye it:

It's a cotton/polyester blend. It fits very well, and is very comfortable.

I also grabbed some cotton work gloves.

They aren't parade gloves, which are impossible to find where I live, but they are being shrunken in the wash right now, and with some dying and sewing of the white patches and
fingers they should be just fine.

So does the jumpsuit look good for modifying into a Boba jumpsuit? I know how to add the double sleeves, the pouches and the tool pockets, but from looking at the photos, is there anything else big that I may want to change?

EDIT: Here is a rough idea of how it's going to look:

If it has back pockets, remove them. If they are big enough, you may be able to use them for the shin tool pockets.

I just unseamed the back pockets, but they are a little small. I'm going to pick up a pair of pants they had that were the same colour and material and use it for the pouches and pockets.

Just look thru the other similar topics in the forum and read carefully. The answer is there, you just have to "use the Force" and you'll find what you're looking for.

In other words, there are different ways to do the jumpsuit. There are examples of where to look for the right pattern to create the Jsuit, if it's a "money-saving-wise" choice. Now, the quickest way is to buy 2 coveralls of the same model, company and color, and that will save you a lot of time (maybe a few weeks) of hard work, and just follow the instructions around here. Just my 2 cents.

I saw a new pattern for jumpsuits, but it's only in boys sizes. I guess it would be good for someone making a costume for their kid, though. The fly doesn't go all the way down, which I think would be a big mistake for a little boy's costume. Other than that it is a good basic pattern. It was in the McCall's pattern book for Halloween, and it's a flight suit type costume. Theoretically, it would be possible to just make it bigger. However, proportions change a LOT from boyhood to adulthood, so I doubt that would work without a sewer who knew what they were doing with measurements.

Hey everybody. Thought I'd show some pics of my new coverall. I've been working on this darn thing for months, and after rescuing it from the garbage can a few times and nearly giving up, I finally have it pretty well finished, (still need to weather it). I'm starting to understand why the esb suit looks so different on screen. This thing is very grey, and has only the slightest hint of blue in real life, but of course you can see how blue it looks in the pics. Thanx for looking

and heres how it looks with the rest of my junk!

DUDE! What did you make that out of? The flow of the material and the way it just barely is slightly baggy is so perfect! TUTORIAL!!!

Are you refering to the coverall or the cape  I did post a short tutorial on how I did my cape a few months back, its not too hard. If your talking about the jumpsuit, It may be a long tutorial!

Well, I don't think my coverall is any better than the majority of other TDH members suits I have seen, (I've seen many that are better,) but If there's a few of you guys interested in a tutorial, I'll try to get that up next week or so, (material used, patterns, dyeing, etc.) I'll let ya know up front, sewing one of these things from scratch is a pain in the butt, but I think the results are worth the effort. In the meantime, PM me for any details etc, & I'll be happy to help.

Holy Mazola! Sorry to jump in so late, pally. That looks fabulous, man. Great job.

For me, sewing sucks and I try to avoid it as much as possible. I've done it way too many years. But, you seem to be on a roll, and can turn out the good stuff as well.

The whole shootin' match looks great!

Wow, I didn't think I'd get any more replies on this! Thankyou so much for the compliments guys. I'm having a really crummy day, but thanks to your kind words, I have turned my frown upside down! :) A few more details about the coverall: THe pattern I used is call the Black Bute jumpsuit, which is made by a company called Red Pepper. As far as I can tell, the pattern is discontinued, but check your local Jo-Annes fabrics stores, they may have a clearance rack with some of these patterns still available. Of course you will still have to do major modifications for the suit to make it accurate. THe material I used is a cotton blend, and is very light in weight. I was reluctant to use such a light weight fabric, but other coveralls I had sewn w/ heavy material just didnt seem to have the right "baggy" look. I double stiched everything, and as long as I don't do any cartwheels, I think it will hold up fine. Thankyou again everyone for your comments.:)
