Duckcloth is a thick cotton material. Its a nice heavy weight material used in making boat sails. It works great!

"Duck" is 100% Cotton canvas, and is often labeled as "100% Cotton Duck" in material stores. As mentioned, it's the same stuff they used to make sails for ships out of. I make hip pouches and spats out of it. :)

ok....i am working on an esb fett....and everyone tells me to go with the steel blue from the jc penny workwear catalog, so i get them right, one long sleeve and one short sleeve ( at a cost of 112.00) and when they arrive they are WAAAYYYYYY to freakin blue.....meanwhile all the fett costumes i have seen at conventions , are wearing grey jumpsuits....and on my dvds and vhs copies the suit looks grey to me ......and i just crazy?.....can i lighten this color up to look more grey?....cause i aint happy with them at all....

** im trying to improve my boba fett, not look like jango fett.

I don't know man, I had the same problem as you. Those suits are pretty impervious to bleach, at least I couldnt lighten mine at all. the only thing that seemed to help was to leave it hang in the sun for a few weeks, but that didn't do much either:( I finally threw mine away & sewed my own out of a more "dye friendly" fabric. Wish I could help.

Hey Randall,
I am actually in the process of my ESB jumpsuit too. What I did was I got 2 pairs of white Red Kap brand coveralls. They are 65% polyester and 35% cotton. I first dyed them using a pack of powdered Evening blue RIT dye. When they were dry I mixed up 2 teaspoons of black powdered dye with 3-4 gallons hot water and soaked them for around 10 minutes or so. This added some grayish tint to it.After that dried I mixed up some black Ink, alcahol and water solution and misted the whole jumpsuit but not drenching it. I then made this solution darker with more ink and misted the lower legs and anywhere the weathering was darker.
I'll get some pics today and post them later. I'm pretty happy so far.
P.S. I got the coveralls on Ebay a while ago for around $4.00 each.

I'm ready to start working on my jumpsuit for my ESB fett. Has anyone found some fabric at any local fabrics stores?

I'll be dying my jumpsuit. i'm hoping to find a grey one.

thanks in advance.

I'd look for a white one and dye it to your specs. It is too much of a hassle to lighten a dark one, not to mention that excessive bleaching will break down the fabric.

Look for a cotton twill with a diagonal pattern. Han Hunter found some for me last year (called cotton "drill" in the UK), but bought the last eleven yards of it to make our suits.

Seeker--I found some awesome light gray twill fabric at Wal-Mart a year or so ago. If you'd like, I could send you a sample of it to see if you think it will work. That way, you could have something to hit the streets with. It's just a hair darker than the vest fabric we all got from Bobafettish. It has the correct diagonal pattern that was mentioned. LMK. I didn't even hesitate when I found this stuff. I saw it and thought "Holy Poopy Pants! This is exactly what I've been looking for to make my jumpsuit out of!" So I picked up the whole bolt, and bought it. It took me about 5 seconds or less to make that decision. It was almost one of those moments where there's a single light from heaven highlighting the object you've been searching most of your life for. I still have the bolt, if you'd like a scan of that. The fabric was $2 per yard.

yup, just think of the ROTJ suit as a washed out version of the ESB, considering that on certain parts of the ROTJ suit you can see blueish hues between folds. :)

Yep, cotton Twill.

I found a really light grey at Joann fabrics for my new ROTJ jumpsuit that is on my display for $8 a yard. It has the diagonal pattern to it.

The diagonal pattern looks pretty much like denim jean material. Anyone disagree with that?

The material looks a little lighter than denim, when ever I see it I think of my old coveralls, it was a thicker than the stuff you see on flightsuits but lighter than denim.

Agreed... Also the diagonal pattern isn't as pronouned as denum is and the material isn't as thick/heavy like denim either, sorta semi close, but not quite.

I think we made our Jumpsuits out of the Same Material!!!! Of Course, I sold mine :(
pic at: http://photos.yahoo.com/roberteidemiller in the Emergency sale folder.
It's also been referred to as "Bull Denim" or Denim Bull.
They carry the same material at Hobby Lobby Also.
Light greyish tan. They call it Khaki, but it's really grey. Looks VERY accurate for the ROTJ.
I found a REALLY nice blueish Twill/denim at Hancock Fabrics here locally. It would make an awesome ESB, the only problem I see, from a Sewing standpoint, is it has a stretchiness to it. Like stretch denim. Not real bad but who knows if it would work.
Thanks,
Robert E.

Nope, after looking at the pic of your material close up, mines different then yours.
The lable on my bolt was labled cotton Twill, I have seen material labled Bull Denim and is a little different.

Another tip, if you ever come across the material get it as soon as you see it! A few months ago I ran across some beautiful material that was perfect for it but I had no cash. Went back a few days later all of it had gone and to this day I cant find it. So don't hesitate... and get some for me. ;)

OK, I know I'm resurecting an old thread here, but I'm confused...I'm doing ESB Fett. Should the jumpsuit be gray or blue? In this picture, IMO it looks like it is a faded postman blue (kinda).

But it seems like some peeps up this thread said to go gray...

I'm so confused...
