IX Mandalorian XI

New Hunter
Hello,

My name is IX_Mandalorian_X (real original, right, but it's my X-box username and I was too lazy to be creative)

I assume this is the right forum to post this, but if not mods, go ahead and move the thread.

At any rate, I am interested in making a Boba Fett Costume, but have some basic questions that need answering first.

1.) What parts are better to build from scratch, and what parts are better to buy already made/buy and modify?

2.) If I build the armor, I have heard that PVC Sintra is the best material, is that correct?

3.) On a whole, where will a good Fett Costume put me money wise. I've heard numbers all t
he way from $200 - over $3000. I am in college, so money is not something I have a ton of, but at the same time , I don't want to make a cheap costume either.

4.) What is the Hardest item to make?

Thank you for any and all advice

BTW: :jetpack <---Those earn this site an A+ in my books :D

1. This depends a lot of your skillset. Are you good with sculptinng? Are you a good with fabric? I think you will find that most people purchase the helmet more than any other piece due to its complexity. The rest is really up to you and what you can do.

2. Sintra is good as is ABS. If I am not mistaken, sintra is easier to work with but ABS is more durable.

3. A Boba Fett costume is generally a long term project, not something done quickly or cheaply. Again a lot will come down to how much you can do yourself vs how much you have to buy. I would think you could get a decent Fett for under $1000 if you did a lot of work yourself, but if you are wanting top of the line pieces you are going to go way over that. Spread it out... do a piece at the time and that makes the cost easier to swallow.

4. Again, I would think this would be the helmet if you are planning to make it from scratch. The gauntlets and jetpack can also be pretty complicated and are often purchased instead of being made from scratch.

What do you reccomend I should start with? I was thinking of making the Jumpsuit first.
Also can I make the Helmet out of Sintra as well, or would I be better off just buying one?

there are a couple of very interesting scratch built suits on here. ive seen people make very good looking helmets out of cardboard and bondo. I myself am doing a similar build but im trying to use only aluminum. you can make pretty much any part yourself if you have the skill. i would cruise around and look over other peoples projects to see what all goes into the creation process

start with the helmet, it will be a good project, theres a lot of people that can help you, and it will teach you all the skillsets youll need for the rest the hard parts.

Id do the armour and helmet first, then gaunts and rocketpack. Just buy a white jumpsuit for 30$ and dye it. Thats your best bet.

I agree with Stormrider the helmet will teach you a lot about how to construct the rest of the costume. i recommend working slowly and starting with cardboard for the helmet. It is easy to work with and the end result can be phenomenal. Also, make sure you get the correct kind of cardboard; I reccomend starting here http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=24821 I followed this tutorial to the "T" and my end result was more then I ever could have done on my own.

GOOD LUCK AND CHEERS! :cheers

EDIT**
doing the helm first will almost force you to finish up the rest of the costume.

check out afettfullofdollars. the best and inexpensive way to make the armor is sterilite garbage cans. also check out wof armor templates on how to make everthing right

Welcome Brother! I thought I would chime in with my two cents. This site is full a great info if you spend the time needed. Research is key to success. I took a lot of short cuts to get a temp costume for Halloween, but for long term I expect it to take a while. I agree with the Fetts above, start with the Helmet. http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=24821 I used this and my Helmet came out awesome!!! Its a good project, time consuming, but fairly inexpensive. You will feel totally satisfied with this step though. Good luck, the people around here are always willing to help, so don't be afraid to ask!

The top of the line stuff is like what Boba Maker produces http://www.bobamaker.co.uk/. his prices are high, especially if you're getting it shipped to America, but his products know no bounds. A suit made of all his stuff (besides the few things he doesn't produce) will run $5000+. If I were you, I would start off with something that is not only essential to the costume, but also a great display peice. The blaster or helmet would be where I'd start. But I'm not sure as to what boba fett you're trying to make. The Empire strikes back version or Return of the Jedi? Those are the two most popular versions of Fett. If your looking for a retun of the jedi blaster, I believe a guy on the forum by the name of "hot shot" makes a good, cheap gun. It's made of rubber, but for about 140 bucks, you cant go wrong. Hope this helps!
