Bobamaker?

Redfox18

New Hunter
Hi guys!!!

I've just started to cosplay and I really really want to cosplay Boba Fett, I have been told Bobamaker makes full comissions and is a good maker, what are the overall opinions? Unfortunately I lack the skills to make most of the equipment myself so would prefer to buy a costume in bulk regardless of price. I would love to make this as screen accurate and as good as possible. I was looking at going for the Return of the Jedi or Star wars battlefront versions of Boba Fett, what is everyones opinions on Bobamaker?

Many Thanks
Jack

I think everyone here will agree that Bobamaker does great work...however, when I inquired about a full suit in December the wait time was 16 months. So if you have the time and a lot of money, go for it. Otherwise you can get everything you need here on these forums from various members - as well as plenty of tips/tutorials to guide you a long the way. Good luck!

It's good stuff and well made. It's not cheap and the wait times are long albeit met. If you ask him to paint it for you it'll be a longer wait. I've not been disappointed with anything I've purchased from him but some makers offer items that are better than his option in my opinion (gloves for example) but if you want it all done in one hit then i wouldn't have thought there's a better choice available right now.

I have his armor and think it great. Very friendly and answered all my questions.

He is busy and stuff takes a while to get. What is the budget you plan on working within?

I got all my armor and helmet from bobamaker. It is excellent work. The only down fall is the wait time on his work I waited 7 months last year payed in full in dec. and didn't get it till july and that was to get it without him painting it. now I read on here that his wait time is up to year 1/2 abouts.
But his work is top notch.

Redfox18 The quality and detail Bobamaker puts on the helmet is outstanding. I currently have his helmet and I love. It is a perfect fit for my size and head. Others have found the helmet a bit to small. I had a helmet on order with since March 2015, it was expected to be completed in Feb 2016. But that date got pushed back to a recent flood in his country. So basically a full year. A member here BFett1308 picked up a full completed Suit from Bobamaker, I would suggest speaking with him, here is his thread: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/my-esb-boba-build-51583/?highlight=bobamaker

He had to make some adjustments to the flightsuit, girthbelt etc So it will not be perfect. You can commission other members to paint or offer services such as Darth Vorhess, Split22, MLS, Woodman etc. If you get on it, you can have everything within 6-8 months if you hussle. I started buying pieces of my build and commissioning some parts in April 2015 and I completed it in November. Much better than waiting around anxiously for over a year. But do your homework man. Best of luck.

Its about as accurate as you can get, I just a bunch of items from him a few weeks ago, was amazing but took an age to arrive due to how much demand he is in

I kinda ruins the whole experience of building and piecing together a suit that your building yourself, but if you have a lot of money and a lot of time the complete commission is the way to go.Btw the complete commission you showed in the pic is prob between 6 and 8 grand....

It's a shame if you are looking for a SE ROTJ - a real nice one just sold here. With any suit made without out you there to fit it on will likely require some adjustments. That suit in the pic is very nice but as pointed out prob over $6k and a lengthy wait time. You prob could piece one together in that time frame for less $$ ( which is not meant to be a slight at BM since his stuff is veryyyy nice)

I had just asked him about buying a Jetpack and was told it wouldn't be until April 2017. Just guessing, but I think a full suit would take longer.

You can piece a quality suit together from the builders here in less time than the wait you're looking at with BM. As everyone said his stuff is great but half the fun for me was getting it piece by piece and seeing everything come together. Anything of quality takes time (hence the wait with BM), but there are a lot of skilled artists on TDH that specialize in the different pieces which means you can get individual pieces faster.

Whichever path you choose you'll end up with a good suit though.

I got my helmet painted from him and I'm always in awe when I look at it. I also have my armour from him which I trimmed and painted myself. As everyone else says with alot of research it can be done by yourself for alot less. I was about a year in waiting for my stuff also but it was so worth it.

I ordered that same ROTJ SE set from Daz last October with a 12 months wait time, so I should receive mine end of this year. Since then, I have been reading up on this forum and found some alternative and less costly sources for certain parts. You should know he does not fabricate everything and also acquire them from other vendors. Hence I removed some items from the order and will order them from some members here. The main parts I've left on the order with Daz are helmet, armor, jetpack, gauntlets, shin tools and boots. Still costs a fortune, but at least I get to "build" a part of the costume and my payments get comfortably staggered over 12 months.

Another consideration is how much you want him to "finish" the costume for you. A big bulk of the cost is attributed to his immaculate painting and weathering skills.

Lastly, be aware that although you are ordering a full set from him, it will require some tweaking to fit you properly and some upgrades to enhance the accuracies.

To be fair, you can encounter long wait times here too. I've been waiting 16 months and counting to get my armor back from a painter, and a year and counting on items from 2 other members. So don't be scared off by that 16 months quote from BM, because he's just being realistic. There's a chance you could run into a similar wait times if you commission folks here. Bobamaker at least tells you up upfront that it's gonna take a long time...

If you're an average sized guy, the quickest way to Fett is may be to keep a close watch on the Cargo Hold and forgo commissions. But buying used stuff can be risky if you're not comfortable working on this stuff or if you're not up to speed on prop sizes. You could end up with stuff not quite right for your body type.

Good luck

I bought his armor off someone else and to me it looks great. I ordered the missing parts and he was very good at communicating the costs, dates, etc...It will still be a few more months until mine are ready. I figure the Boba build is going to take me 2 years to complete, so no rush.

Hi I've purchased my ESB flightsuit (weathered) and armour (unpainted) from bobamaker and he does have about 6/7 months wait time but that suits me as he allows me to pay of monthly and by the time I've paid up the order is ready for shipment. His quality is fantastic and he is really helpful

Daz is a straight up cool dude to work with. And he makes great stuff. If you don't mind the wait BM is a great option. I had his gloves, shin tools and a few other bits. Wish I wouldn't have sold them!

I was going to commission an ESB full suit from BM, actually put a deposit down but life got in the way and Daz was very gracious about returning my money.

In hindsight I'm glad I never went through with it. Not because it wouldn't have been an outstanding suit but it was better off that I pieced mine together the way I did simply because of the various things that have to come together on this suit to make it work.

For example, I purchased a set of fully painted FP armor on here, but when I begin the process of getting it ready to attach to the vest, it just wasn't looking right. Too small for my body type (I'm six foot, 195 or so, but I'm broad shouldered). Daz's armor, I believe, is similar in size. So after forking over major $$$$$$, I would have had to go back and buy some more from probably who I went for after the FP didn't work - RKD (his larger sized plates).
