Adding Sound/Light to a Webley?

Markus Fett

Jr Hunter
Just got a Webley kit and I didn't realize how large the interior cavity is - I was thinking about possibly gutting a Hasbro Stormtrooper blaster I have laying around and using the speaker and barrel lights from that, but haven't opened it up yet.

Has anyone tried to add lights/sound to one of these? I'd appreciate any pointers...

Hhhhmmm, I am sure someone has but I haven't seen it. So you may just have to go for it. If you can get easy acces to the gus, then just rig it up bro ;) Post pics of course :)

I'm not too sure I've ever seen that nor heard of the idea. It's sounds like a really cool one though. Did you get a legit webleys? Those are expensive.

Yikes - if it was a real Webley I don't think I'd have the nerve to modify it. :) Thanks for the input guys - looks like my Stormtrooper blaster is gonna lose it's insides...

I'd do it if I had both of those items. The EE3 would be a little bit "funner" if it had sounds ;)

I don't know too much info on the subject, but I beleave there are website where you can get custom made soundcards for blasters. I might be wrong, but it seems like I saw something like that once, this was before I started on Fett though. It was when I was just doing lightsabers.

From a 501st perspective I wouldn't do it, whilst the sound maybe fun it wouldn't be authentic, and it'd potentially devalue the hard you've put in with the rest of your kit.

I heard one of the 501st UKG guys uses the ROM FX V2 and has a sampled blaster sound that he can trigger by a button on his glove. The sound comes from a speaker somewhere else, which is also used for voice.

Just my thoughts

That's a good point Phil has made... regarding the authenticity of the blaster....., however, one of my TK blasters is a Hasbro and I've retained the LED in it and also the sounds.... On a serious troop you don't use them, but on a fun troop.... hey come one... :)

Using a hasbro/kenner interior is a good idea coz you can use the trigger assembly and all the electronic bits....I say go for it.... You don't have to press the trigger on a troop do you?

On a TK front, there are quite a few troopers who have used blaster cores for their E-11 self build.... check out the FISD build threads....

And if you do go the Hasbro/Kenner route, we wanna see a build thread...... :)

Remember to speak to your local GML first and get his opinion..... very important for clearence ....

Uhg, even people SPELL my name the way they pronounce it and it's wrong! Cop-Lee. Lmao ;)

Anyways, thanks for the link, I knew that I had seen some stuff like that before. As for the 501st, who cares? Does anyone want to elaborate the importance of this group? So far I have gathered this info about the 501st from two forums: Cons = strict rules which you have to fallow and can't have that much fun with your costume. Pros = ?!

I just don't get it. Don't put sound in your blaster if you want to be in the 501st. What kind of benefit is being a 501 member? I see people brag about it likes it's an amazing task to complete. I mean NO offense to 501st members in anyway, I just don't understand it. I'm making an SE Fett, it will be very close to screen accurate, but I can already tell you that I will change things about the costume. I do not wish to discuss these things because I hope to be the first to do them, but who knows. I am making my costume functionable, not "hey this is identical" More like, I am trying to make Fett's real costume, not just the props used for the movie.

Buddy......

I'm a 501st member and i'm proud to be part of a worldwide organisation (about 12000) strong... We are a charitable organisation and we raise lots of money for our Charities buddy...as well as having a lot of fun. We pride ourselves on having costumes as authentic as possible within the guidlines of common sense and safety. We go to troops up and down the country and around the globe and we do it at our own expense. We are like a garrison, with a command structure in each country and yes there are rules which need to be followed... Like a no-lids off policy as an example... no rude/offensive behaviour when in costume etc... When you are on a troop with fellow Garrison members, it's the business and it's fantastic...the feeling is simply superb... We are like a family, a brotherhood and we help each other out as much as possible....

Anyway, let's get back to the topic of this thread....

Thanks for clearing things up, sort of.

Oh, and about the commen sense and safety thing you said, you have no idea what I was speaking of, so saying that was kind of rude, actually... the whole beggining of your post was rude, I said no offense to any 501st member, I simply did not understand it all and still don't. Lighten up.

The 501st makes Star wars legit I am in the process of getting my # and have been invited to the last several outings with my garrison. The value of being asked to visit sick kids in the hospital is immeasurable.
Maybe it's not for young mavericks but for 40yr old guys who wanna dress up with their friends and bring joy to childrens faces it's tops. It's also a chance to push yourself to make your suit the best it can be and earn the admiration of your fellow members. Try it I think you'll like it.

I would, but I don't have the ability because of my job... I'm scheduled to work every day this month. I should check out who is in my area though, because I haven't seen anything llike that around here. You're like what 5-7 hours away, maybe less. Are there events near you? I didn't know it was for children or that it was so organized. Thanks for the info woodman ;) And dang man, are you still up, or did you wake up early? :D

Question: If you did put a soundcard and speaker inside of a resin EE3, and the gun didn't look any different than in the movie because you made a perfect replica... it would still matter? And you couldn't join? Heck I don't even have a blaster or soundcard, and never really thougt about doing it untill this thread, but for future referance I'd like to know. I'll definately admit, that now that I know more about the 501st, I'm more interested. When I had no idea, I just thought it was a form of certification that you were super authentic and nothing more. Sorry for the double post. So to Markus, I can't say now if you'd want to do the mod or not. If you want 501st, maybe you can't?

I know people who travel 5 or 6 hrs to drive to a troop...why do we give up our spare time... coz we do it to see the joy and smiles we bring... and If you can't afford the expenses, guess what... there will always be a 501st trooper willing to help you go on that troop.... That's part of what the 501st stands for..... My last troop of 2009 was at a hospital childens ward, to see the smiles you bring is as Woodman said...immeasurable...

Over in the Nordic, the Nordic Garrison is organising a massive troop at Legoland Denmark, its likely it will be attended by over 100-150 501st members... we have special rates for hotels, food etc.. all organised by the Nordic 501st, and why, bcoz the 501st is a recognised and respected charitable organisation.......

One does not have to join the 501st, we don't hold a blaster to your head.... but were are there also as a support organisation..... and lets face it.... trooping on your own like Billy-no-mates is not fun at all.....

Ok...just to clarify a few things...

I'm an INACTIVE member of Star Garrison (TX, OK, AR, LA)...and when it comes to membership based on your costume "worthiness" it really is all up to the Garrison Membership Liaison. I mean, in Star (and woodman seeing your in AR I figure you would know who the GML for Star is, be it if you're 501st) we have guys who go to troops wearing TX flag pauldrons. Some even have Black Imperial Cog decals on their shoulder bells. It's all up to what the GML deems as acceptable. In all honesty...I dont think any garrison is going to have a big problem with an accurate fett having a sound/light board in their webley. As long as your suit is accurate they are going to accept you.

And Copley, it is a pretty cool thing. I've met some of my best friends via the 501st....I've met some pretty big jerks too...but thats anywhere you go man... the rules for the 501st are there to protect themselves. I've seen some people make huge IDIOTS of themselves during a 501st event. But really there is alot of comrade re to be had in a garrison. If you are planning on making customizations to your Fett that aren't canon to the films...in all honesty, if you applied for membership, its all about how the GML is...if they are stickler for accuracy you probably won't be accepted until its made to complete accuracy.

Thanks Gilmore :) I was wondering, are these events public enough to where someone like me could go watch and meet people? You know, go in street clothes and be an 'audiance member' ? The upgrades to my costume won't be visable, I'm not altering Fett's appearance, I am just doing something that I haven't seen done yet ;) IF I pull it off, it will be pretty cool! All I can/want to say is that it is about electronics. But yeah, i would love to go to an event just to see ppl in costume and maybe meet a few new friends. If you've seen my price log, you can tell I am going for super accurate ;)

Oh yeah...in Star we do the Dallas Symphony Orchestra event....they sometimes do the Music of Star Wars...and invite us out to come in costume...while 501st is a charity organization of sorts...first and foremost, its a costume club. So they do alot of events that you could just go to. They could always use handlers too, someone out of costume to help them out and keep the "non-understanding" spectators at bay...ya know...the guy that wants to come and just knock on your armor constantly and asking if they punch it if it will hurt you...
