"Directional Thrusters: Gyro-Stablizers apply conterthrust for maneuvers and landings." -The Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology
This is the backpack worn by Boba Fett. It is sometimes referred to as a rocket pack, but TDH has standardized on calling it "Jet Pack."
Boba Fett's jet pack remained pretty consistent throughout pre-production to film. The most notable difference between each jet pack would be the paint colors and weathering.
Other such differences include the placement of the greeblies seen on the Preproduction 1 to the inside seen in Preproduction 2.
A few more interesting things to note about the packs, which we will describe here.
There were 2 different styles of beacon used in the films, which seems to vary slightly from the Preproduction 1 jet pack. Take a look at this comparison of exhibit photos.
Note that the top appears to be brass, and that the size and shape differs between the MoM pack and the one seen in other exhibits.

The Preproducion #1 and Preproduction #3 Rocket Packs are the same pack.
The greeblies seen on the bottom consist of a BNC Female Chassis Mount Solder Connector, a XLR Male 3-Pin Chassis Mount and a XLR 5-Pin Female Chassis Socket Connector. The other two greeblies have not been positively identified, but are speculated to be a regulator pin and a gas related quick disconnect coupling.
The Rocket Pack Stabilizer (or Targeting Range Finder according to the Visual Dictionary) is the foot stand from a Michell Engineering Turntable Sweep Arm.

Return of the Jedi Boba Fett Jet Pack
There are at least four identified jet packs used for Return of the Jedi. One jet pack is currently owned by Steve Sansweet, the Director of Content Management at ILM.
The Return of the jedi jet pack maintains the original concept seen in the pre-production versions. The jet pack is a fiberglass/resin construction with various foudn items, and painted using Floquil model train paints and Grumbacher Miskit Liquid Frisket for masking.
The only identified foudn items on the jet pack consists of the Stabilizer (or Targeting Range Finder according to the Visual Dictionary). The Stabilizer is the foot stand from a Michell Engineering Turntable Sweep Arm.
The jet pack is hooked onto a Harness that is worn under the Vest. The Harness has not been yet identified, but is another found item.
