Thats a good idea, you can even take it further and install a red and blue flashing light that you can turn on under the dremeled out insignia. When you are chasing down a lawbreaker in your jet pack you need your cherries.
 
Or! you could go with a mounted bage there. Just like a Sherriffs badge but a metallic-red,silver,gold,green any metallic color would look cool) mandalorian skull badge. But sink into the helmet.So it doesn't appear raised out from the helmet,but more apart of the helmet just inset.
