Kokuma's RS Props ESB Helmet Paintup

Hi All

I just thought I'd post up a post showing the progress of my RS Prop Masters ESB bucket. I have been working at this for about 3 weeks now and I didnt bother posting up a step by step progress as you're all probably sick of seeing them.
Anyhow, I used Rafalfett's awesome stencils as a base but I didn't use Maskol for any of the paint masking (yet!), this has all been done via the typical layering process but using vinyl stencils cut on one of my plotters. Took ages redrawing them in vector format to create the stencils and it was a bit of trail and error finding a vinyl that was easy to use without too many issues. I think it came out quite well for my first attempt... but that' s just my opinion. :p

I used a base coat of Metallic silver from a rattle can (over primer obviously) to start then everything else was the usual Humbrol Enamels through the airbrush, all the details like the logos and kill stripes are done by vinyl cut stencils and airbrushed as well.
I've just got some more details to add topically, some more weathering and to re-paint the rangefinder as something isnt quite right with it, paint is not drying on the thing! Oh yes and the visor to fit, but I have to make a new one as the one I got from RS Props wasn't cut straight so I'll have to make another from 3mm acrylic.

Here's some pics so far and I'll post more up when I finish it. (pics arnt that great, it's a bit dark inside and the camera on my phone isnt the best but you get the idea)

Wonderful detail. Did you print on vinyl and then hand-cut the stencils?

Edit: I think you said the plotter did the cutting?

I created a vinyl stencil for each colour layer, the plotter then cut it out and I then stuck the stencil on the helmet and airbrushed the colour... there's a bit more to it than that but that's basically the method.

When I paint my next one I'll do a step by step guide on the method.

The range finder has been giving me no end of trouble, I'm guessing the resin wasn't mixed too well as there were a couple large soft spots on the top where the paint kept reacting and wouldnt dry, so I just cut those area out, stuck a piece of plastic card from the inside, filled and sanded it smooth a few times.

Got the range finder painted yet again and then fitted my home made flashing LED circuit (see here how I made it) and added a 3mm white LED for the viewfinder part, drilled a 3.5 mm hole in the clear part for the LED and put it all together.... just enough room!

The visor I got from RS Props wasnt cut right and was too short so I made a dark grey and a dark green tinted acrylic visor. Made a template from 3mm foam board, used that to create a flat vinyl stencil and then proceeded to heat the acrylic and bend the sheets around a bucket. Stuck the stencil on, cut the visor shape out, sanded it smooth, fitted chicago studs to the helmet with JB weld and voila!
