Purchased a Disney 18" Boba Fett and cut it into pieces ! Figure Mod

Ok, Shhhhhhh. Don't tell anyone but the family is out off the house at a kids birthday party. Yes, I'm supposed to be there too, lol

So I figured I'd stop in and drop some pic's real quick....

OK, where was I ? Ah, yes, the EE-3

IMG_9086.JPG

IMG_9090.JPG

Green foam board from Lowes...my favorite medium

IMG_9091.JPG

Trying to get it fairly close.....

IMG_9094.JPG

Used balsa strips for grips

IMG_9095.JPG

IMG_9096.JPG

IMG_9098.JPG

Wooden dowels with sheet foam wrapped around and glued

IMG_9100.JPG

IMG_9101.JPG

Dry fit

IMG_9106.JPG

Never look down the end of a rifle ! What's wrong with you people ?

IMG_9108.JPG

Working up some of the greeblies

IMG_9109.JPG

High Tech.....Drywall mud

IMG_9117.JPG

IMG_9118.JPG

Checking the fit of the hand

IMG_9120.JPG

rechecking the look of the pose

20150220_143535.jpg

Sanded down some of the mud and cut in a little detail

20150220_144213.jpg

Added some texture to the handle with paper.....wait, phone's going off.....

Thanks for looking...

here are a few more before I have to run out....

20150220_150004.jpg

What a mess.....

IMG_9133.JPG

Added a little more detail to the rifle with balsa wood

IMG_9135.JPG

Painted it all with Gesso

IMG_9139.JPG

Ready for a coat of paint

IMG_9140.JPG

My new airbrush.... Badger 155 Anthem Dual Action. Love it

IMG_9142.JPG

1st coat of black

IMG_9144.JPG

a few coats later...

Touched edges up with testors enamel silver / dry brushed

I sometimes use Rub N Buff for metallic worn edges as well.

IMG_9148.JPG

IMG_9149.JPG

Well, that's pretty much it for the EE-3

I welcome any comments / suggestions !

More with the Boba figure soon....

Thanks,

Pcoz

Back with a quick update...

IMG_9274.JPG

Back to work on the body. Foam filler into the screw holes

IMG_9277.JPG

using the paperclay to cover the mess that was caused by grinding off the molded scalps

IMG_9279.JPG

building up the neck to head area with foam

IMG_9280.JPG

Removed the bottom of the helmet to accept, you guessed it, more foam board !

IMG_9281.JPG

IMG_9282.JPG

IMG_9283.JPG

As you can see, as horribly boring and lacking in detail as this figure was, there is a pretty good base to work from

IMG_9287.JPG

IMG_9288.JPG

IMG_9292.JPG

Since my Boba will be situated "up high", I wanted him looking downward as if surveying an expansive land of some sort...

IMG_9293.JPG

IMG_9296.JPG

...and now to the legs. I cut the legs at the knees so I could open up his stance a little

IMG_9297.JPG

IMG_9298.JPG

IMG_9299.JPG

I opened up the foot so it doesn't point directly ahead like most figures do...

IMG_9301.JPG

Next is connecting the knee on his right leg. Just found this great stuff.....foam board, lol

IMG_9304.JPG

dry fit pose...

IMG_9308.JPG

then hot glue the foam together for a pretty solid bond

IMG_9311.JPG

covered it with paper clay

IMG_9314.JPG

we'll let this harden overnight and keep trudging forward....

Thanks for looking

Hey Guys... Does anyone know why all my pics are displayed horizontal ?

I can't figure out how to fix that....hmmmm

I think it's determined by your camera orientation when you take the picture.

It does something weird with the file.

Yeah, what's strange is, if you right click and open in a new window, it's oriented correctly. It's probably a forum setting or something.

That is odd, does the same if you just click on the open picture too.
what happens if you resize the photo in edit mod... i.e. make the image a medium size? (you have to click on your image in edit to highlight and then an option with size will show).

meanwhile....

I'm gonna push this post all the way up to the prime coat !

Let's go....

IMG_9316.JPG

Again, paper clay covering the joints

IMG_9319.JPG

20150303_200906.jpg

Since my goal was to have one leg up on a step of sorts, I need to get the body in position

IMG_9327.JPG

More paper clay to fill in all the joints and gaps

IMG_9328.JPG

Starting to carve out the clay

IMG_9332.JPG

trying to get a little cloth detail

IMG_9333.JPG

IMG_9338.JPG

Did not like the molded tools on the original figure, so I used the dremel to grind them off and "open" the pockets. I'll make my own tools and fit them in for a better look.

IMG_9329.JPG

Reworked the range finder using balsa wood to make it sturdy

IMG_9345.JPG

IMG_9346.JPG

IMG_9349.JPG

taking inventory on accessories to be modified

IMG_9456.JPG

At first I thought I could just use the paper clay to cover the joints only, but I was mistaken. I soon realized I'd have to pretty much cover the entire figure, including the legs, to make it look right.

IMG_9457.JPG

carving some more chest detail

IMG_9459.JPG

forgot to allow for the tubing to enter the sleeve. So, added some more clay and carved that out...

IMG_9461.JPG

IMG_9464.JPG

20150316_221536.jpg

Legs carved out....

IMG_9476.jpg

started reworking the accessories and adding my own tools

IMG_9484.JPG

IMG_9488.jpg

I think we're almost ready for primer !!!

More to come !

Thanks for looking

I wonder If I can find this Fett here in NZ? I've seen Stormies... might have to have a look around, this REALLY looks like it was a lot of fun to do:p

I've sourced him for £20 in the UK. For that price, I may pick one up. It does seem to be a LOT of work to make him pretty though.

Thanks a lot guys, I greatly appreciate the kind words.

It is a LOT of work ! But I enjoy the process of transformation. Most of the time it's more about the journey than the destination for me....

The EE3 mold idea is good....if I did that, I'd probably redesign a new one and really focus in on scale. I feel the scale on the grip side of this one got a tad too big. I still might make another for this Boba, we'll see.

Anyway, I'll start posting the painting side of this project very soon.

Thanks

Pcoz

Ok, let's paint....

I always love the prime coat. It brings out the true form especially when you're working with mixed media....different colors, etc.

IMG_9496.JPG

What red tape ?

IMG_9502.JPG

IMG_9508.JPG

20150401_203938.jpg

IMG_9522.JPG

used standard testors metallic silver enamel as the base coat. I also tried using masking fluid (similar to rubber cement) to mask off the damage to the armor. My hopes are that with a few coats of airbrush paint, I could easily remove the masking and have the metal show through.

IMG_9523.JPG

Same idea with the jetpack

IMG_9526.JPG

started painting some of the accessories.......

IMG_9530.JPG

mixed my airbrush paint to get close to the green.

IMG_9534.JPG

hit the back

IMG_9535.JPG

moment of truth removing the masking..... It did ok

IMG_9536.JPG

I removed some regular painters tape that I used to mask off the 2 shades of green....hmmmmm, kinda like it. I realized I didn't need to mask anything off. The airbrush paint can be scraped off the enamel paint to create a much better, more natural effect.

IMG_9540.JPG

So I continued on the chest and the other areas. I'll scrape the detail in with an exacto or something

IMG_9546.JPG

touching up the pack

IMG_9550.JPG

adding in the maroon

IMG_9552.JPG

I airbrushed a little black around the dent and used a metal pick to remove the paint inside to show the metal through....

IMG_9562.JPG

IMG_9564.JPG

IMG_9566.JPG

just started to scratch it up a little....

IMG_9567.JPG

IMG_9572.JPG

IMG_9575.JPG

20150407_205649.jpg

again, I'm not entirely set on being completely screen accurate as I'd like this to be a little more weathered.

IMG_9579.JPG

used the same technique for the gauntlets

IMG_9583.JPG

more soon.....
