General Justicethebeast's build (overhaul)

Ok so this past weekend I did my first ever troop in my jango kit. It is not close to being complete nor accurate but I'm not wanting to be apart of any group so it doesn't matter to me lol. I attended Wizard World Comic Con San Antonio and everyone was in awe in my costume which I thought wasn't very good to begin with :) (compared to a 501st) Anyways what do you guys think I should do next to "improve" my kit. As far as I know that needs to be done is:
-cut holes in chest plate
-get blue gloves
-jetpack (I have one it's just not painted)
-fix shoe armor (they are just huge)
-stain or dye holsters to match belt

The chest armor is aligned, the pic inside my house was taken when the vest wasn't properly put on.

The chest armor is too big for you, that is causing some of the vest/fit issues. The armor needs to be cut down to your size and the fit will begin to take better shape. Same with the flight suit.....tailor it to take out some of the bagginess and the overall look will sharpen.

There are not holes in the Jango chest plate, only intentions. So you don't need to cut holes, just dremel out the slots.

Also if you get a leather bolo girth belt it will help even out the chest/ab to leg area.........

I think the back plate is the same issue, if it were cut down to size it will sit on the back better. The backplate and the ab plate should line up at the bottom. If you think about that then your back plate is several inches too long. When it hits the hips it pushes up off of the shoulders.

As far as how much to trim off, it is tough to tell off of these photos. But the nice thing about trimming is just go a little at a time and you should be fine. The armor appears to be sintra, and if so then trimming is not too much of a problem......... look at the templates in the Jango forum and choose a smaller size then you can print them out and test fit them to your chest before you start trimming.

And as I was typing I looked at the pictures again. On picture #7 look at how much wider the chest armor is than the collar. They should just about be lined up.

Awesome thanks I'll see how much to trim. I printed off a few templates to see what works. I think I'm going to do a complete overhaul on the paint job for the armor and do RnB instead of paint. It looks really dull in person.

When I do R+B I usually put down a smooth layer of silver paint under it. Then add the R+B over the top. Just in case you want to try that.

So I primed, painted with silver and applied RnB. Am I supposed to wet sand the RnB? It turned out like an uneven finish. It's all wavy. I made sure the paint was completely dry and sanded between coats. Also I'm redoing the helmet paint job so what are the spray paint colors for it? I've tried like 5 different colors and neither of them seem right.

No the R+B doesn't need sanding. It needs more heat and elbow grease. The way to get it smooth is by rubbing it quickly and allowing the heat from your hand to melt the wax. If you sand it the R+B will just come off completely.

if you apply too much it will take a lot of rubbing to get it smooth. The key (guess I should have mentioned this earlier) is to apply small amounts at time.

On the helmet I use Krylon Oceans Blue and Rustoleum Royal Blue.

Awesome thanks. I just sanded most of it and started over. I think your right I put too much. It came out much smoother this time.

Looks like a great start, and some great advice to really get it looking nice. I was curious where you got the flight suit? It has a really nice color to it, looks like the perfect mix of purple and blue.

Thanks! It's actually a boba fett flight suit (the grey one not blue) (I'm not sure of the maker) but i un-stitched the thigh and shin pockets and dyed it. I used 3 liquid bottles of Rit brand denim blue and 1 bottle of purple. And put it through the washing machine. do as the instructions say but don't add any salt or vinegar. I got the dye at Wally World for like $2.50 a bottle. It gave it that nice blurple. The last pic was taken before I removed the pockets on the thighs.

Jango Upgrades

Update: completely re-did the helmet I'm still not happy with it though I want to do some adjusting to the visor area it seems uneven to me. And I'm going to order a metal RF. I trimmed the breast plates and added the indentions; I still have to weather and readjust the position of them. I'm going to make a girth belt eventually and dye the holsters lol. I'm working on making my own helmet fan set to deal with the Texas heat. Also does anyone have any experience with the NME Props/Fett Seven jetpacks? I'm looking to get the stubby but I wanted to hear anyone's opinions on them. Like how they compare to others. Should I go the extra $40 for a mow?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407731928.847033.jpg

Looking good, I think tightening up the vest now that you've trimmed the plates will make it fit way better. As for jetpacks, I've never had hands-on experience with an MOW or any other pack, but I do own an NME props jetpack. It's a b-pull that I got for cheap, just has a slight dent in the lower body, but I really like it. It feels sturdy, and it's lightweight. I think they also just recently made a new mold, so it'll have nice sharp details.

Got a jetpack today. Needs some work on the rocket on top. And of course I have to repaint it. I originally wanted to go with a stubby because the colors were less complex but everyone's wait was well over when I needed it. So I found this on ebay. Besides the rocket does anything major have to be redone? Also I think I'm going to add the access panel in the back. Worked on painting the jetpack. All I can say is I got what I payed for :/ oh well I made due with what I can afford. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1408336063.188700.jpg I started with the white ImageUploadedByTapatalk1408336305.861095.jpg then yellow and red (which ended up being way to bright) ImageUploadedByTapatalk1408336431.421461.jpg then blue.... And after all that dried I pulled the tape off ImageUploadedByTapatalk1408336528.575730.jpg I'm going to spray some satin polyurethane to dull it out a bit. And I've decided to make the rocket a screw top ImageUploadedByTapatalk1408336633.762481.jpg I need to do some striping and decals for the jetpack and my armor is on hold until I can find some rub and buff. All the local hobby lobbies in my area are sold out. (I would still have some if I didn't have to redo the helmet three times lol) let me know what you guys think so far.
I've decided to rename this thread because it's turning into more of a build than fixing a few things.

Your red is definitely too bright. If you look in my jetpack WIP thread where I did a Kamino and a Geonosis pack I have my colors listed, as well as the other threads I used for reference.

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f28/jango-jetpacks-45079/

and in case you don't want to click the link, here is my paint list.
Kamino paint
Rustoleum Royal Blue
Rustoleum White 2X
Rustoleum Burgandy
Valspar Equipment Yellow 5339-08
Krylon Flat black
Krylon clear satin finish
craft paints for weathering
Krylon metallic aluminum for the rocket

Awesome thanks! I'm going to see if I weather the red a bit it'll get darker, if not I'll repaint. I also made a harness using nylon straps but I'm still tweaking it a bit to work properly.

Late update but got the costume together. Did a 10 hr troop in it yesterday at alamo city comic con (never doing that again; never been so sweaty and sore In my life). I think I'm really satisfied with it overall. Still need some alterations done on the flight suit and flak vest, assemble girth belt (have the stuff just need to assemble), new holsters, blue gloves, and definitely new westars! If anyone has a set that was pulled wrong or has some imperfections let me know! I had the old dart shooting ones but they are way to small. Anyways... Let me know what you guys think. I'm kinda tired of the Rick grimes
