Ren did an incredible job and he’s a great guy to work with. I sent him a raw GMH, no prep work was done to it and that was my mistake I wish I could have done over again but Josh(Ren) was nice about it and still pumped out quality work.
I’m going to do the rest of my helmet build here on Ren’s PP2 commission thread.

So now I still needed to trim the helmet a bit for visor installation. I used a matchbook that I cut and folded over to help trace a line using a pencil. I moved the pencil and cardboard guild to the right and left to create an even cut line.
    img_4832-jpgimg_4834-jpgimg_4835-jpgimg_4837-jpgimg_4838-jpgimg_4840-jpg

Again i should have done this before i sent the helmet to him. now i must be super careful not to damage paint.
I picked up a cordless Dremel, it’s just over 7" long and fits in the helmet with great clearance
    img_4841-jpgimg_4842-jpgimg_4843-jpg

Ok Trimming is now complete with no damage to paint
    img_4857-jpgimg_4858-jpgimg_4859-jpgimg_4860-jpgimg_4862-jpg
Going to correct another big no no I forgot to fiber glass this helmet before paint OMG. That’s up next…

    Thanks Brother
Need TDH assistance with finding the correct File Size / type for this PP2.
I found some Micro Mega dental files #45 on eBay. They look good but are the #15 more accurate?

Here are pics with the #45’s in please but not glued on. I would rather be accurate then OK.
Please let me know what yalls think.

    Jim,

I think the 45's would be fine. That I'm seeing there's no close-up shots of the back of the helmet with the files in, so we don't know what number they used, much like the gauntlets and jetpacks. We know they used the files, but to assume they're all #15s is a leap. I would suspect they used whatever files they had, wanting the shape rather than the number.

The ROTJ helmet clearly shows the #15 (this has only 1 upper and 1 lower grooves, while the #45 has 2 lower grooves):

Also, if you look closer, the MQ-1 part and the visor piece is pressed to the inside of the keyslot, as there's not too much room between them.

Yeah the #45's looks great but there’s six files in a pack and chances are they where all the same size for those helmets made/ painted around the same time.

I used J.B.Weld to glue the MQ-1 part and the visor piece down so i had the use a dremle to cut those parts out, grind down the rest of the J.B.Weld glue off. after that I hade to thin out the key slots a bit to achieve the correct look. After that i once again fitted the MQ-1 part and the visor piece. Last pic shows what it looks like secound take.

So you were on the right track here...though the plastic should have had a channel cut out for the MQ1....if you look at the back of the ROTJ helmet in MOM you can see kinda how it was done..and in the ROTJ gallery you can look also...inside the helmet...

That would make for a better fit, thanks Brother. i never noticed that channel for the MQ-1, i always thought it was half and half.
    Thanks again F4R

I've always meant to do a rotj helmet assembly tutorial for people with mq1 castings....and just never got around to it. But yeh...it makes for a cleaner install to no glue on the edges.
