Ammo Belt Tutorial : Ammo Belts V2 (with RafalFett templates)

StrumFett

Active Hunter
Hi,
Last year i started a thread (http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/wip-ammo-pouches-fully-functionnal-44124/) where i tried to make a functional ammo Belt. During the construction, i learned a lot of thing and tips which helped me and with the great help of RafalFett i was able to finish my project.
So i decided to make a tutorial (more clear than a WIP) for an improved version.
This tutorial is also going to speak others versions of the belt. I hope it will be helpfull for others members.
Comments, advices and critics are always welcome because i think that is the only way to progress.

To make the tutorial as clear as possible, i will always put new documents in post #1.

IMPORTANT 05/23/2013 : The templates of the belts use RafalFett Measurements . So it becames a team project between Rafal and me.
Some templates will change to match with new measurements.

Edit 03/08/2014 : Due to limitations, i can't post all the pics on the same post. So i'll post each new documents on a separate post with the number marked on post #1.

This is JPG version (PDF will follow in both A4 and Letter formats when i shall be sure that no correction will be necessary).

I think this will be an epic thread and I can't wait to see all the ammo belt and ammo pouch types!

Just to ease your work a bit, the Pre-Pro #3 and ESB ammo belt and ammo pouches looks the same (like most of the soft parts), while the ammo belt (without the ammo pouches) present in the MoM, DaG and SWtE exibits is the reused Supertrooper/Pre-Pro #1 ammo belt put upside down (and not the one from the AoSW/C-IV exibits; that might be one of the early Supertrooper prototype belts):

Hi Rafal !
Great infos again ! I think i will need your advices again...

This is a first drawing of the ROTJ belt. Dimensions aren't respected.

Do you think i'm right?

I've 2 questions on the belt :
Question ROTJ belt.jpg

I'm working on the pouches to see if the measurements are the same than ESB.

You must use the Pre-Pro #1 images of the ammo belt to replicate the ROTJ belt:

PP1 Ammo Belt.jpg

But remember that you must use the belt upside down. The 2 parts sewn together in your image is the one that is between the 2nd and the 3rd ammo pouches from the left (but possibly hidden under the 2nd pouch).

I've 2 questions on the belt :

I'm working on the pouches to see if the measurements are the same than ESB.

I say that the ammo pouches are the same but were assembled a bit different. The belt's width is around 66mm (the same as the ESB belt) and the length is somewhere in the 1.2m (or 1200mm) value.

Thanks Rafal !
This is a modified version of the drawing

Due to the lenght of the belt i can't draw it completely.

Due to the lenght of the belt i can't draw it completely.

That stitch on the right side is actually a double stitch:

ROTJ Belt Double Stitch.jpg

The right side end is wrong because the margins should taper to the inside. Here is a quick drawing of both sides for you:

Print it with the fit to page option and check if the printed ruler matches your real ruler, then you'll have all the measurements you need. I'm not 100% sure about the inner seam lines around the 8 grommets, but it looks like there is something with that form.

Hi,
I've finished (i hope) ROTJ belt. Some of measurements (like the 2 sewings in the middel of the left side) are difficult to find.
Here's a comparison test and i found the diameter of grommets :

So her's the documents :

Update :
1- Change presentation of the documents :
+ Delete Belt overview and add scale view of the belt (more clear).
+ Add ref pics
+ Add more information

2- On ESB document :
+ sewing on the belt is at 0,3mm from the edge (and not 0,5 mm)
+ Add the 2 ends of the belt scaled 1:1

That's all. If you think that something is missing please feel free to say it.

Now i'm working to do the same in ROTJ belt and starting the Prepro#1's one.

The ESB ammo belt is reversed; the end with the grommets is on the left and not the right side.

Just a recommendation: you could post the ammo belts and ammo pouches of the different suits vertically and not horizontally, this way the visual view will be more pleasant and well organized.

Keep up the great work!

Some researches on PP1 belt
It seems that the belt was put in front of behind and 2 differents pouches were used.
Original : You see grommets on the right
PP1 Ammo Belt 2.jpg

Here it seems that they are in front
grommet location.jpg

On the first pics, you can see on the left 2 differents parts assembled to make the belt. The connection is behind on the color pic.
PP1 back.jpg

Also, it seems to have 2 differents pouches. On the right the same than ESB. On the left the pouches seems wider and have less thick. Working to find their measurements .

Just some corrections:

The ROTJ SE has 14 ammo pouches while the ammo belt has a cream-colored and not black velcro:

ROTJ SE Ammo Pouches.JPG ROTJ SE Cream Colored Velcro.jpg

As with the Pre-Pro #1 ammo pouches, I don't think that there are 2 types, at least not shape wise. Maybe they used material (leather or vinyl) with different thickness (and heavy weathering), this is why some of them look different.

I'm not quite understand this image:

Here it seems that they are in front
View attachment 68857

The left side is correct, I think there are 2 grommets hidden under that end of the ammo belt, but the right image where the arrow points under the belt pouch, there's no grommet there; it's just the end of the belt:

PP1 Ammo Belt Attachment.jpg

Note that I used your images to do the comparison.

You did a great job with your research and I love what you did so far. I know that I said in my Misc Templates and Blueprints thread that I will post my ESB ammo belt and pouch templates, but seeing what you did here, I think it will be better to not compete with your project. PM incoming with my research...
