N00bs: What do you need for a new ROTJ costume?

CDub

New Hunter
Hello all! :)

I've been contemplating a ROTJ Fett or even a custom one for a few years and have visited TDH many times during that span. After not having a 'good' costume for numerous events, I'm ready to start building one. The ones you can buy (Rubies) seem like a real joke, and there doesn't seem to be anyone that sells a decent Fett costume. I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. There's a ton of information on this site, and it's been tough to get a handle on what I need to do.

Here's my situation... I'm currently working full time and volunteering for 2 NPO's. I don't have a ton of time, so if there's some reasonable parts to buy that would be great. I don't care too much about the cost as long as it's good quality; I'd like to have it last a while. I'm also ok letting someone build a full costume for me even though that will be a lot of money, but I'm not sure if anyone does that on this site.

Helmet and jetpack have me worried the most by far. :(

I've seen some real nice helmets like this one: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f31/gmh-definitive-boba-fett-helmet-original-sales-thread-38956/.

Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

The GMH is a good choice, but the wait time is huge so you might try to contact 'asok' for his cc helmet. As for the jetpack, there's MOW (Man of War Studios) or BFUK (Bobby Fett UK) or BM (bobamaker). You have two alternatives here: to buy a nice painted helmet (or jetpack) from the Cargo Hold or to purchase a new one and commission one of the excellent painters from TDH to paint it for you, but it won't be cheap.

Good luck!

Welcome to TDH, Chris. You're definitely in the right place for all things Fett. :)

There are many vendors who produce pretty much all the components for a high quality costume.
Some things you should think about are whether you're looking to do the finishing work (painting, etc.)
yourself, or whether you're after "ready to wear" gear. That will make a big difference in cost.

The helmet you linked to is a great one. If you do some searches on this site, you'll begin to get
an idea of who sells what. Take a look at this thread:
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/esb-project-complete-spideyfett-darthmiller-44841/
If you look at post #18, it lists a lot of the manufacturers of the suit components. Even though
that thread is about the ESB costume, a lot of the makers create parts for different costumes.

Have fun looking around TDH!

Thanks for the friendly welcome.

Thanks for the names of jetpacks and helmets, RafalFett. I'll go ahead and start browsing the cargo hold. I found this link (http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/asok-cc-fp-mr-budget-boba-fett-helmet-assembly-esb-paintup-44183/) about an asok helmet, but I haven't see any for sale. It's an absolutely beautiful helmet. How would you get the visor in. Would you have to cut that part or does it just come off?

superjedi, I'm definitely not opposed to finding ready-to-wear gear, and I'm also not the most talented painter. I sit around a computer most of the time for work. :p That might be a great route even though I am willing to give painting a shot if I have too. I can't believe there's people that do most of the components. That's going to help a ton.

Would the helmet be the best place to start or should I try and get as much all at once?

Thanks so much guys!

Ok, I'm goin with a helmet...

Asok CC has a price of $175, while FP has a price of $252. Is the FP helmet really that much better? And is there any other part(s) of the helmet that I need to buy?

Is this the right Asok CC: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f31/cold-cast-boba-helmets-41538/

Thanks,
Chris

Edit: Also, do you guys have any idea of how much it would cost for someone to paint it? And should I get each component that needs to be painted and do it all at once? Or is it different people that paint each component?

Thanks Beren.

I really don't know what I'm doing so hopefully some of the veterans can comment on this and verify everything. Maybe I should put it in a separate thread...IDK.

Chest Lights
Hoses

RF Topper and Stalk

Some of the above parts might not be included from the vendor or may "need" to be upgraded.

For ROTJ there is no sidearm, holster or rifle sling. Those are ESB features. You'll need boot spats and hip pouches for the belt which may or may not be included with other soft parts.

Paint, glue, sandpaper, snaps, velcro, elastic... all of the things you'll need to finish the kits. If you don't already have a Dremel / rotary tool, something like that is pretty useful since most kits will require cutting and trimming.

Hey bud! Welcome to TDH. in all actuality, Asok's helmet was made by FP! Asok bought the mold from FP a while back ago. Asok's cold cast helmet is one of two versions of the "Mr. Prototype" Boba Fett helmet that was never actually used in the movie. FP's Mr. Prototype remains in tip top shape and is a favorite helmet by a great many Boba Troopers! There was one other Mr. Prototype that was sent to China but the schematics for it were mildly distorted but still wound up in FP's hands. After a while, FP sold the mold of the Mr. Prototype "budget" helmet to Asok and has now become known as "Asok's Budget helmet".

As for being better? not sure. In all honesty I see inconsistent shaping of the helmet (because of different camera lenses people use to take pictures of them, not the helmet being inconsistent itself). I've greatly considered getting it because I really admire FP's work and Asok is very responsive when I have questions! Here's the link; http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f31/cold-cast-boba-helmets-41538/ I think the cold cast is a very cool material and people speak highly of Asok's helmet (Plus it's cheaper :D)!

Also, I've considered Bobamaker as well. His helmet pays attention to all the details and will get rid of the "wavy brow" (at least that's what he told me) if you want to make an ROTJ helmet.

Hope this helps and anyone is free to chime in if my history is a bit off on Asok's helmet!
