So, I was playing around with the different sets of armor I did a while back in this thread, and I finally settled on this one for my Mando.
My heroes have always been, well, Superheroes, and nobody does the iconic image better than Superman (even though I'm a Marvel Man, through and through). I've seen some Bat-Mando's here and there, but I've never seen anybody take on the S-Shield, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
Design-wise, I like the pentagonal shield (ala Superman) in the middle as opposed to the center diamond. Obviously Supes' colors wouldn't work, but I kept the red because the armor is about honoring my old man, who was a medic as well (and because it flows well). The rest of the armor will be varying shades of gray, because nothing is ever black and white (and because my Mando will have just lost his parents.
The shield itself is a stylized Mythosaur skull. I was playing around with different symbols, trying to get something I liked, but I couldn't find anything that fit. I've got a tattoo of a burned out phoenix (tribal, skeletal thingy) that I designed, and I was trying to incorporate that, but the shield just isn't the right shape for that. I think maybe I'm going to add the Mando'a letters for N and B on either side of the skull, just to fill up that empty space. N and B for Nau'ur and Baatir.
Spoilers ahead
I got the idea from Fi Skirata's bucket. After Gaftikar, when Kal'Buir moved him to Mandalore so that Bardan could help him recover, he had the letters M and S painted on his bucket, for Mir'Shupur, the compound word for "Brain Injury".
The closest word I could come up with for medic/doctor/caregiver is Baatir, which means "to care, to worry about". Nau'ur means "to light up" as in to make something glow. Nau'ur Kad means to "forge a saber" or "make a saber glow".
I figured the chest piece would be from my Mando's buir, who was a medic/teacher. In essence, he forged new medics. The clan's name would be Baatir, in honor of my family's tradition of being medics/doctors/nurses, and my Mando would call himself Nau'ur, after his father (since I'm a Junior too). And yes, I totally have a severe case of hero worship when it comes to my old man.
The loincloth...well, the idea of cod armor just rubs me the wrong way (no pun intended), but the idea of running around with the crotch to my flight suit exposed also seems wrong. The kama will give the whole "long cape" feel to the suit. I'm still torn as to whether I wanna do a back plate or a cape though. I'm afraid that a cape, kama, and loincloth will just be too dang much flowing fabric.
But yeah. That's where my design is so far....now if I can just snare some funds to start the build....
