Budget Boba Build

Just started painting the cardboard bucket. I'm just going to do the weathering by hand using the ESB templates. I'll start weathering tomorrow. Nice to have something other than primer on something. I have to have this whole costume finished in 8 days.

Sweet brother! I thought I was moving fast, you must tell me what secret drug you are taking that allows you not to sleep at night. With your mad skills we could take over the world on Boba at a time!!!!

I've almost finished the gauntlets. I made the gauntlet rocket out of some dowels. The tip of the rocket was made by widdling the basic shape then belt sanding it smooth. I almost tore my thumb off doing this, so I wouldn't recommend this method. The fin things on the rocket are just scrap pieces of plastic cut and glued on. I tried to drill holes in the tip but abandoned it because it started looking awful. Since time is running out I decided to just paint some "holes" in it. Yea, I know that's lame, but this is just for a Halloween party and eventually man cave decor, so I'm not worried about it.

My gauntlet has no keypad because I can't find anything to use for the keys. If I figure anything out before Friday I'll put a keypad on it.

Paint, dowels, more red filler cost me about $20 so we are now at $260.00

Got an idea for the keypad. If you've got a leather punch thing, use that and the for-sale sign, scratch-make a keypad, I've thought about it for Kast. All you have to do is then make the circles ovals, unless you have an oval hole punch handy.

Here are my $16 fett boots.

Boot are really hard to find right now, so I had no choice but to make them.

I bought some flat sole No Boundaries slipons from Walmart. Then used masking tape to make a pattern based on them, then cut it out in some leftover canvas I had from making the pouches.

I cut the pattern out in canvas and sewed the pieces together, then I used shoe goo to glue the new slip I made onto the store bought shoe.

Then I painted them gray with flexible fabric paint.

Lastly I added the details.

I'll make the spikes tomorrow. The slip on shoes cost me $10 and the paint $6 so, that puts us at $276

In retrospect, I could have just painted some Chuck Taylors and then added the black stripe down the front. They run about $40 and I wasn't willing to sacrifice mine for the project. This was a cost effective solution.

I got the cardboard bucket nearly finished.

The paint for the helmet, armor, and jetpack, ran me $35 plus the welding shield another $16.00 Which brings us to $327

Pretty much finished the helmet

Found a local store that sold girth belts. 10 bucks. Finished the armor. No decals yet but they arrived today. I need to tighten the ammo belt and make a few more tweaks. Need to buy some better gloves.

With the sintra for the armor, miscellaneous pieces, decals, and the girth belt I'm finished with this project and the grand total is $402.00.

If I had to do a budget Boba again I could do it for cheaper now that I know where I made my mistakes. I could probably shave a good 50-one hundred bucks off. Since I have all the paint and materials I could probably make everything except the flight suit and ammo belt for $250-275.

First test fit

Now to start on a Better Boba Build which I will complete by buying high quality parts instead of making them. I've already bought a bucket from a board member. I won't do a thread on this one since it will take a year or more.

Thanks again TDH! Couldn't have done it without you.
