I've had our showroom open for 2 months now and I've had some IKEA track lights displaying the costumes on mannequins. Well I've been wondering for a few weeks if my eyes were playing tricks on me because our zam didn't look quite right. I remember setting up the display room and thinking whew.. I'm lucky the lighting is perfect and displays the colors perfectly. Most lighting will make the costume look like a blue gumball so it's tough to get it right.
Well.... I finally decided to pick at the costume a bit, moved the chest armor and there is a huge line where the lighting was fading the leather dye and everywhere it was shadowed is still the original color. I might have caught it in time to save some of it but now I need to try and de-glaze the leather and re-airbrush and try to blend and touch it up..... AGHHHH!!!!
So I think the bulbs I have are probably UV rays ... I should have thought about it because I would never put the costume in a window where the sun could destroy it. It makes sense... it's probably the nice UV rays that give it it's true colors.
I totally believe in spending the money on a mannequin to display your expensive costume. It's both better than having it in a closet and also helps it keep its shape.
I don't have many pics but I do have one that was taken when the room was all finished.
