LET THE MODIFICATIONS BEGIN!!!
I've made a decision. Instead of casting this one, I'm going to leave this bucket as my primary, fan-made, wearable helmet. I plan on making another one to cast in the future now that I have this experience under my belt.
For now though, I've decided to move on to the modifications to make this one look better. (You can see the build thread here.)
Since I consider myself a part of the Mercs, I've added my clan symbol to the forehead.
The first major mod is the top of the right ear. I created this bucket out of sign plastic, fiberglass, and Bondo. When I printed Alan's blueprints and saw Digifetts thread, I thought the pattern for the right ear was a build up. It was only after I kept looking around that I saw an option of recessing the upper ear. So I marked out the hole...
...scored...
...shaved out the Bondo...
...and removed the fiberglass all the way to the plastic.
Here's the upper ear pulled out showing the thickness...
...holding the ear in place to show the recess...
...and the upper ear glued into place.
I still need to do some filler and repainting, but I'll get to that later.
David.
