How to attach Resin to Resin without bolts or welding?!?!!?!

Well I recently tried using some two part 5 minute epoxy...

I mixed it up nice and good and I applied it to the left ear (unfinished surface) then I stuck the left ear onto the helmet (yes, it was partially finished)...

Two days later I pick up the bucket and the ear falls off, epoxy still feels partially spongy...

Anyone have any ideas? sand a strip off the paint down the middle of the spot the ear will place and then crazy glue it or reappoxy or?!?!?!

Cyanoacrylate glue (Crazy Glue) is the best thing that I have found for bonding resin pieces quickly. Sand the paint off any areas to be glued together with 80 grit sandpaper to provide the best adhesion. Also make sure your resin pieces have been washed thoroughly with dish soap to remove any residual mold release agents. I have also found that all cyano glues are not the same in quality. The stuff I have had the best luck with is from Devcon.

Follow these steps & you'll have to break off the earcap if you ever need to remove it. It WILL be a permanent bond.

Ok, I'll give that a whirl and see what happens with it...

I threw out my Crazy Glue after attempting to bond the face shield into the helmet and having it melt the welding shield on me.

Time to go and get some new stuff I suppose.

bigkidbiggertoys is right...Devcon makes good stuff. Walmart sells some Devcon plastic bonder that is a two-part epoxy and it works really well. Ive used it on my MB jet pack bonding resin to plastic and resin to resin with great results. Good luck.

He's talking about the crazy glue, not the epoxy based adhesives I think..

You should try a product call ''SEAL ALL''. This clear glue works excellent. You can find it at a Home Depot or most hardware stores.It's manufactured in a yellow tube.

That epoxy should have been rock solid in an hour.

one of three things happened with your epoxy...
1) you didn't get it mixed as good as you thought.
2) you got too much of one or the other of one side instead of equal portions of each, thus causing it not to cure because the ratio was off.
3) the epoxy was bad or old.

Epoxy only works on a chemical reaction of the two chemicals mixing with each other, there is not much that will make it not work other then what is mentioned above.

Have you had problems with that same exact epoxy before you did your ears? Or just this time?

Hello...

The epoxy might have been old...

I don't think I've used it in the last year or two..

The amount of each substance I used it was totally even as I used two equal lines of it. Epoxy hardens in like 5-10 minutes however can take awhile longer than an hour to dry in my past experience of using it.

I might end up using crazy glue some of the adhesives mentioned here.
