So funny story...
My partner, who is not exactly the Star Wars geek that I am (she's still amazed that I can beat Star Wars Trivial Pursuit in one round), sees me building this Fett and wants to partake in the madness. We're both big halloween/costume/theatre nuts so why not. We tossed around the idea of an Aurra Sing since she's pretty bad ***, but my partner didn't feel overly comfortable with the one piece suit. We looked into Boushh - who is just as bad ***, but everywhere we looked costumes were just under a regular Fett's price tag. Seeing that she isn't into the SW scene as much, we vouched to set a budget of about $500. I understand budget and Star Wars costume doesn't really go together, but hopefully with some time and creativity (and a lot of help from members) we can make this work.
Here is what I have so far (all prices in Canadian)
Helmet mold from WarrenHouck: $97
Smooth-Cast 300 and supplies: $144
Bandolier strap, buckle and sliders: $11
Gloves: $8
Tank PVC and wood dowels for Bandolier: $13
Paints: $22
Glues, Bondo, Quick Plastic, More sandpaper: $40
Legos/Greeblies: $20
Fettronics Lights: $50 (after shipping and exchange)
Visor material: $14
Voice Synth App: $10
Audio Splitter: $28
Aker Amp: $32
Total so far: $489 (as of May 24th - Ok....so I'm going over. Wah wah. It was worth a shot!)
The remainder will be used for the soft parts which will be made by a local Garrison member, FANGS. She made a stellar Boushh, so I know this will look awesome.
If we need to go over $500, I am willing to chip in more to make it look good, but the idea is to keep this ...'reasonable?' ...lol. Just wait until I get all "lets add lights and sounds"...oh yeah...
My partner is looking for some sandy boots that she may be able to use OUTSIDE of the costume. If this is the case, she's going to purchase these herself (which helps with my budget
)
Also, I already have a pretty good leather belt (surprisingly close)....just need to fandangle a buckle.
Also have a thermal detonator that she can use from my Fett costume.
I've already worked on the tanks and bandolier. The bandolier boxes I am still looking for in the event that I am not happy with what I put together. If anyone knows of a cheap solution to the 3 bandolier boxes and center chest armor box, I'm all ears.
Had some fun finding out how to cap the tanks....but after a long stroll through the Dollar Store...
Bonus: they just so happened to be the right size for the larger tank, so it just took a wee bit more trimming for the smaller tank:
Cut out the shapes for the tank greeblies. Not my finest hour, for sure, but all I had was a hack saw:
I also started working on the shoulder bandolier box today. So far, all makers who I've talked to are selling the bandolier boxes (3 bandolier + 1 center box) for about $80. A bit much. If I can find them secondhand or used, I will be all over it, but for the time being, I went to my local toy/hobby shop and spent $20 on Lego and G.I Joe parts. I think I found some things that might work. Not perfect, I know. But I'm surprised what you can find in these bins...
I've cast the greeblies from the helmet mold and will be casting the actual helmet this Saturday at an armor party.
I started this thread over on the BHG...but figured I would share it here as well.
Cheers
Aaron
