Let me know if this sounds good to anyone....I bought 2 navy blue flight suits for 35 each from a surplus site...I am going to do up the sleeves like jangos then fade the navy blue out in some light mix bleach water...then when its a faded navy, add just a little RIT purple dye to the mix and make a faded navy/purple suit who knows what color i will look in the sun?!?!?!? Think this will work anyone??
Test it on a portion of the jumpsuit you wont be using all of to make sure it is ok. Be careful with the bleach, may make it spotty, may eat the material.
well as far as the bleach was concerned i was only planning to use a very diluted mix and then maybe do it twice for the desired effect...but i was planning in using a pant leg to try it on first thanks mirax
Ok so from what i understand the flightsuit was like a thick cotton right? Has anybody looked into using flannel wool or cotton. It seems to have that nice fuzzy texture and flannel wool is pretty thick material. Any ideas??
I wouldn't use flannel at all. I am fairly sure the original was a polyester cotton blend anyway. I guess if you are doing an Artic Fett then the wool would be fine. I think in the long run, whatever you think looks the best and feels the best is going to be what you should do.
The vest and jumpsuit: What patterns are you using?
What patterns are you guys using for the jumpsuit and vest and how are you modifying them? What materials are you using? What kind of stitching/thread do you use? Thanks
Check out my website for pics. I used Green Pepper pattern for men's black butte jumpsuit and a women's vest pattern. Thread is just multipurpose. Fabric for jumpsuit was 100%cotton and vest was ultraleather in a gunmetal grey. Used regular straight stitch. Obviously had to add the short sleeve for the jumpsuit. The vest, I made it zip in back (so had to alter my pattern) and added the cap sleeves (used the shoulder templates to get a size and shape for the shoulders. Also used cording to add the detail stitching around the vest. Used lots of pics from Who Jedi.
I used the Simplicity pattern for my current BF flightsuit. The pattern would work just as well for Jango. 100% cotton here as well. I might make another flightsuit depending on if I can add some vents to back of my current suit. If not, I'm using one of my Air Force flightsuits for my next pattern because, well I wear one everyday, and it fits great! Just have to add the Fett parts to it.
If that is the mechanic jumpsuit used for "Grease", then yes, it is no longer available. I had contacted them about it and they had a few left that they said I could order directly through them. If my green pepper pattern didn't work, then I was going to do so.
Kahuna,
Glad I could be of help and glad you liked my site!
I have a gray jumpsuit and I was wondering what dyes should be used to make it the right bluish/purplish tint. Somebody on here mentioned they would give out the mixture that makes the jumpsuit exactly the right color. Help, folks.
My J/S was white first and I used Rit dye.4 packets of denim blue,2 packets of navy blue and 1 packet of purple. It looks EXCATLY like the pictures in "The Visual Dictionary" I thought it was a little light at first but the more I look at it the more I like it .
