Where have you found the hooks for the cummerbund. I have been looking for a place to buy them and am not finding anything. Any help would be appreciated.
That's what I thought they were. I know the same hooks are in my figure skates. I just can't find anywhere to buy them from. I think I'm going to try a skate repair shop and see if they can tell me where to purchase some.
Yeah if you do a search on here, a lot of people had trouble actually finding them. Ohiotravelbag.com sells boot hooks, but I'm not sure if they're made by the same people. They still look pretty good, regardless.
Yes - they are skating boot hooks - or hiking boot hooks.
I ended up buying some off eBay awhile ago... but *slams head into desk* not enough...
I think someone ordered them directly through YKK... I haven't tried it myself - as I don't have the blasted cummerbund finished yet. But it's worth a shot! If you find a resource let us know!!! PLEASE!!!
Speed lace boot hooks. They were first used on Military boots as far as I know. I had a source here in atlanta that could install them with a machine ment to do them, but god it cost me money and when I did them I was having them done for someone else at the time. I do not recall who it was.
Hmm.. A-314 probably would be best. Rivets tear through less fabric and leather less easily than just the kind you smush through. (But size would be the determining factor.) I guess the Antique Brass would be best. I wonder if there is a way to darken the boot hook to make it look black before you attach it to the cummerbund?
ZIA said she had to pay a couple bucks for each one to be attached. Any shoe repair shop should be able to attach the boot hooks. I found two in my neighborhood that could do the job - just not the boot hooks!
Thanks for the info Foxbatkllr - You are a font-of-information!
For darkening them, Birchwood Casey (the makers of Perma Blue which we all use to turn Zam's steel beads a dark blue) makes several other metal finishes, including one that darkens antique brass:
Me and Becky got hold of those but not the tool used to rivet them fastened. (expensive thing)
We just used normal rivets and inside Becky's Belt we have a strip of the same leather used to make the skirt
This gives the rivets (with washers too) something to hold onto and also gives the belt strength and stops it from sagging as you load it up with akll the greeblies
We just glued it ontot he back. No one can see it ssssh
another option is taking them to a boot repair person. i think i paid 10 bucks to have jamie's belt "hooked" up and he set them right there. only paid for the ones i needed and the setting
