Actually, these pulls are taken from my kid gauntlet molds. I figured I'd use them for the test pulls since they're just like the big boys that will be finished soon!
Autosol car polish is great for bringing out a good finish on cold cast parts, I use it monthly on my dr who cyberman helmet, it sounds like you got the mix right it needs to be around 80% aluminium, thanks for sharing the progress
Just wanted to share a comparison of the cold cast test pulls.
Pictured below are the three test pulls placed side by side based on aluminum powder ratio: 66%,90%,& 125%. And a close up pic of the 125%. I'm satisfied with the 125% mixture for my Jango gauntlet molds.
Other than a small price difference and the required buffing, there really wasn't that much difference between working with the cold cast materials and the aluminum filled resin from Smooth-On that I already use for my backplates and kid gauntlets.
That looks fantastic, where do I sign up for gauntlets? Im a huge fan of cold casting as it really does yield great results, all those years trying to get a good metal finish with paints
Thanks guys. I like seeing how the shine intensifies from left to right in the comparison pic.
I had some left over aluminum, so last night I actually mixed up a mixture consisting of 150% aluminum. It was difficult, however possible, to brush into the mold, but I'll be sure to post pics of the results.
your link above where you talked about ordering filler and resin from gives me a big fat 404... also you mentioned smooth on alot... thus the PM earlier about where you actually got your powder form and the type of resin you ended up using. Clear Layup resin (polyester to be exact) is what I was always told was the best but your results are nothing to argue with.

All of the pictured test pulls were achieved using their aluminum powder and *EP4101 clear polyester resin.
Hope that clarifies things.
