Custom Smuggler/Merc

I'm wanting to make a character I've got the backstory pretty much worked out. He will be smuggler/merc, weapon of choice is a customized bowcaster (shooting energy shots more like Chewie's than those in Republic Commando). I'm working on the weapons for the costume first (tight for money due to college and I have what I want to build it around already) starting with a $40 p90 airsoft gun. I need some ideas for what to use for the bow... my dad suggested buying a small tow bow from Wal-mart and using it, though I'm thinking of using sign aluminium like i saw someone doing with a Chewie bowcaster
I'll start posting pics as it goes.
