ESB GMH

Hi all, just got my GMH in the mail today from Woodman (thanks again, hope you're feeling better!)

Very nervous on getting started on it. Placed an order for some maskol off of ebay tonight and I'm working on getting my printer hooked up so I can print out some templates.

Wish me luck, I hope I don't screw up too badly. photo 2.JPGphoto 1.JPG

What size screws will I need to attach the ears, and what kind? Also for as far as the attachment goes?

Where can I find a paint list? I don't see a sticky for it. I'm based in the US if that would help with know what my options on purchasing locations go

Hoping to have at least the visor cut out tonight.

I know SuperJedi detailed his bolt/ nut setup in one of his paint threads, it's in post #21.

For paints, it depends if you are using an airbrush or spraypaint.

For Spraypaint:http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/affo-s-paint-list-airbrush-challenged-11819/
For Airbrush: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/one-last-wafer-thin-esb-paint-job-30707/

These, in fact, are stickied in this thread: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/boba-fett-helmet-consolidated-paint-up-threads-48236/

your gonna need to fill the Prepro damage and add ESB damage...I would do that before cutting the visor...
Would regular hobby putty be good? The squadron milliput I think it's called? I was hoping to leave the mandible damage because it adds a lot of character to the helmet in my opinion, I know a lot of purists are probably cringing at that statement (as I have when something similar was said about Stormtrooper Helmets).

I'm going the airbrush route! I shouldn't have any problems running enamels through an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS will I? I've only thrown Tamiya Acrylics into it.

Figures I didn't find those threads though, I was looking for a sticky specifically for those, not a stick with the threads IN it. Thanks very much!

Also, I just got done giving the helmet a nice bath with dish soap and a steel wool .0000 rub down.

Ive seen people leave the dmg..but you end up painting in areas with that damage there...so it looks weird....I use tamiya putty...and then add the ESB dmg....

Okay, got my putty in the mail today. Started to putty the damage. Does it look alright? I realize I still have to sand it out.

I was afraid that the little bit that got inside the dent would soften the details. Should be cutting out the visor tomorrow after I pick up a new dremel. Old one is defunct and I can't change the bits out. :(

Sanded the putty this morning, lightly sprayed with with Mr. Surfacer 1200 Hobby Primer (this stuff is seriously awesome, I use it a lot on my model kits) to see if there were any imperfections in the putty spots. There was one where the putty was a little porous but nothing that will show after painting.

The mandible damage also needs to be puttied and redone. That GMH damage is PP3 damage and not ESB. Look under the stickies for Rafals paint and damage stencils. It will show you the ESB damage. also, I just puttied my GMH as ESB and you can see helpful pics under my thread (ASOK CC GMH in ESB for Longhammer).

You are correct, and I know sometimes it's so confusing with all the Pre-Pro numbers, but in this case we are talking about the Pre-Pro #2 physical damages. The Pre-Pro #1, the Pre-Pro #3 and the ESB shares almost the same physical scratches. And yes, the image regarding those scratches is at the end of the first post in this thread ==> Boba Fett ESB Helmet Stencils

Reluctantly I've filled the PP2 damage. A little more excited now, though, that I've seen the image making it easier to replicate the ESB damage. Thanks RafalFett!

Also, I was wondering if someone could help me find a link to a particular brush. I was on the forums browsing one day and saw one recommended for applying masking fluid, other than using a toothpick. I think it was a hard rubber brush, but I can't find the link or the thread in my history.

Got the visor cut out tonight, then gave it a quick rinse to remove the dust. It's a little rough though, I have a file that I'm using to shave it down a little and clean it up, but I'm not getting anywhere with how thick this helmet is. Any tips? Sanding Drum on a dremel?

I used an aggressive coarse file and a dremel with a sanding disk (easier in the tight areas then a wheel. Also, cutting wheels work great as sanding tools as well. But overall I mostly used a small hacksaw blade, and a variety of files. Coarse to get it close and then jewelers files (bought all the above at Home Depot).

Sure! Once I cut out the visor I went to hand tools. Too easy to make a mistake and pay for it in time and work making it longer than hand tools in the first place. :)
