New Hunter
So I am putting together my first helmet in what may become a string of many helmets in the future. I have absolutely no crafting experience of any sort, nor anything artistic whatsoever. So this is an interesting challenge for me. I'm gonna be taking a whack at making a Boba Fett helmet, but I will not be making any emphasis on ESB or ROTJ. This is going to be a simple Fett piece of work and and will be giving it my own twist, while still maintaining the identity of the helm. This thread will be used to document the progress as I go along with the build. Here's where I'm at so far.
I purchased a blank helmet kit off of Ebay. Came with a white resin helmet and parts for the range finder assembly. There is an ''FP" logo molded into the bottom visor area that is supposed to get cut out. I'm going to assume that's who made the mold? Either way, I was impressed with the shape and quality of the helmet. There was a little bit of warping on the dome shape, but nothing extremely noticeable in my opinion.
I used a dremel tool (circular blade) to cut the visor out as accurately as I could.
If you're wondering what that gash is on the visor area, I wanted to try and imitate some type of lightsaber damage. A quick little scrape from a Jedi that came up short. YES, that is my toilet.
I made a wooden helmet stand to use for painting applications. 5 dollars of wood and a few nails did the trick. First thing up is the primer. I am using all rattlecan for this paint job. I picked up a handful of Rustoleum colors at home depot for about $3.47 a can.
After the primer settled, I sprayed Rustoleum "Metallic" to be the base undercoat for all of the visible scratches and paint chips.
Tomorrow morning I will lay down some liquid latex on all of the battle damage that I grinded in various areas. Then the main green coat will immediately following.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Again...This is not intended to be either ESB or ROTJ. Just a fun Boba to break me into the cosplay world for the first time.
