So, we managed to pick up a Nemrod holster to go along with our Pulce speargun for the TDH table ( thanks SlaveR5!).
I am still not totally convinced the ribbed strap version of the Nemrod is the exact version seen in the film, but it will certainly do for now.
So we started with this early this afternoon.
The first thing I did was try the fit the Pulce into the holster... It fits! It is tight, but it does fit. The barrel barely fit through the hole in the bottom so I widened it just a bit with a half-round file. One thing I think some people are missing is just how far out the bottom of the holster the pulce barrel should come. From what I have seen, the barrel should come completely out of the bottom of the holster, almost to the point that the knurling shows.
I then realized that the rubber retaining strap for the holster was far too long because the Pulce is pushed so far down into the holster. I added a new snap about 3/4" behind the original and then trimmed the strap. After trimming it sits a lot closer to how the original stap appears to sit.
I then began to cut out the trigger guard area in the back of the holster and spent most of the afternoon on this as I was very afraid of cutting away too much of the holster. However, I cut a LOT more than I expected before I got a look that comes close to the original.
Here is a comparison showing the second to last cut.
And here is the holster with the final cut to the trigger guard area.
After this I tackled the knife slot. I know there is a lot of debate about how much is cut off and how much is left. I don't know any more than anyone else, but I am not in the camp that believes the prop makers would have been concerned about maintaining the integrity of the Nemrod logo and based on the photos I have seen, I believe the front face of the holster is virtually flat. I know I am immediately going to get flak for the poor sanding job, but believe it or not it is on purpose. In the inset photo, you can clearly see the very hasty and poorly finished sanding job on the original prop, which leaves a knife-like triangle in the center of the face. I did my best to mimic this sanding pattern.
So, that is pretty much it. Here is a photo of the final holster, minus the Pulce.
Now I am on the hunt for an original holster with the smooth, built in strap. Anyone want to trade?
