    Sep 17, 2014, 1:40 AM - swfangirl Boushh build #1

I've been working on researching, compiling, sewing, and building my Boushh for about 6 months or so and I'm pretty much done. Looking for feedback for any additional areas that could be tweaked. I have a few items I plan to work on more as time allows. (also posted thread in BHG)

Helmet - Todd kit that I finished
    Shoulder armor/tanks - Scott/Dark shadow
bandolier - Far Away Creations kit that I finished
belt - from tandy leather/bucket from Boushh builder boards
soft parts - I sewed, pants genuine leather, helmet snout genuine leather, spats, tunic, undershirt/sleeves all suede cloth

Great looking Boushh. It's looks like you've been working hard, especially if you pulled it off in 6 months. I don't know about the finer details to suggest any tweaks, so I'll just give a thumbs up

As bounty1138 said , I too am not up on the finer details , but something popped right out at me. You need to get a neck seal ( not sure if that's what it's called for this) but closing up the void in that area would be a great tweak. You said you could sew so this probably would be a breeze for you. I think you did a great job ! Are you going to submit for 501st approval? Again great job!

Thanks for the feedback. The neck piece actually does come all the way up to my chin, but it keeps getting pulled down when I put the shoulder armor on. I think I'm going to add something to it to make it stay up. I also need to get the light kit for the helmet, and make the detonator pouch.

I'm really impressed with how well you crafted this. Especially in just 6 months time.

Wow, that is looking great! I'm definitely no Boushh expert, but you really look the part! I'm thoroughly impressed.

Sounds like you have it figured, post some more pics when you make these additions. We all like pics here! Best of luck to you.

I made some changes to the pieces:

    - increased neck seal height and added extra support
    - added darker paint to fade the red lettering on the helmet
    - shorten the spat strap and added support to the sides of the spat
    - created a pouch from extra leather I had leftover (not quite sure of the shape, made it based on the bust and figure images)
    - darkened the buckle color

Awesome! What did you use to wrap the snout and make the helmet neck piece and strap?

Snout was genuine leather, I actually picked up a leather coat from a resale shop, cleaned it and cut it down for the right shape, and glued it on with contact cement. I bought a dark leather jacket the same way and used it for the pouch, I have enough material to do the neck piece and arm gauntlets, but am using faux suede since it is more light weight and can be machine washed.

My pants are also cow hide leather, I found a piece on sale at Tandy leather for $40 with just enough material. I started out making a set of the pants out of furniture pleather/vinyl and it worked fine, but just doesn't look as good as the real thing.

I'm also making my own boushh. Haven't had time to post any built threads anywhere but my local 501at garrison forums. What details are you worried about? I'm super into the details on mine. Used screen shots than the CRL on the 501st website (it's not that accurate for me).
I even have the same hard parts as you, just not completed. I only have my soft parts done. My struggle is getting the colors right.

Yeah, I don't 100% agree with some of the CRLs myself, or for that fact how some other people have created their boushh. I've got probably 350+ reference pics of the costume, and depending on the lights, the camera used and the angle, the same piece can look completely different in color and shape. Also, the movie stills sometimes look different than the exhibit, because the exhibit is on a maniquin instead of a real person. There is also limitations based the materials you have on hand to use, it may not work or look the same as someone else who created the exact same piece the same way.

For example, it took me a while to decide how to place the helmet ear greeblies and the color of them, because different people's helmets aren't all quite the same, and the colors can be vastly different (I've seen black, dark gray, light gray, brown, and shades in between). And trying to look at the production pics don't help, because I've got pics where the SAME greeblies look black and in a different pic they look lighter gray! It's like the Han jacket lol

For me, I made decisions based on what was the most common examples of the production and other fan made costumes, and I did a lot of trial and error. I made 2, 3, and sometimes 4 versions of different pieces to fix issues or just try different methods. I made 2 different versions of the pants, real and fake leather, tried different ropes in the cumberbund (they fit different based on your body type), and different cloth types for other pieces. I usually don't go quite to this level for my other costumes, but since this one is somewhat complex, and I spent more time and money on it, I wanted it to be right.

let me know if you have any questions on your build, I can tell you what I did if it helps.

After I'm done with it, I'll have every detail memorized from all the pics I have to study over and over!
You should see if you can try tightening the strap that goes under your boots. It looks loose in the pic. But pics are always deceiving, so it could just be the pic angle. I had to make mine super tight with Velcro since they would drag and wear faster, not to mention possibly tripping over them.

Not everyone is going to agree with the 501st CRL, If you have constructive in put that would be Appreciated, it would also help in many builds in the future and even the current members that are always upgrading. you don't have to be approved by the 501st, it is your costume to do as you wish, the 501st place the CRL up as a guide if you wish to improve on it fantastic! if you don't that is up to you. If you enter a 501st forum you will be given advise regarding the 501st standards.

Boushh is a Hard build not many people realise it, I applaud both of you its not fun. I do wish some live locally as I found another Boushh from another state that visited, I couldn't hide my excitement. I made her a few items (neck seal, cape,) as she didn't sew her costume. And that is how it should be, to be proud of another person's costume, encourage and point out what you can to help. No ones is better than another person's each is different, the only Boushh that is perfect is Carrie fisher's.

Boushh's costume is 90% made out of pig skin it also rips quite easily and comes in varies colours, Like other members looking at upgrading I have the colour of the tunic in Pig skin in a box and I have the leather for the pants in another just haven't worked out the Crinkle effect with the leather on the knees..
Many members are unable to get the pigskin or afford the costume made in it. Fabric look a likes work great. This also is used in the Scout CRL for the patches on the legs....Including other CRL's using the look "alike line" ones offering a different medium.

If you want my help I will go out of my way post up photos, keep an eye on your thread, suggest from my mistakes.

McBoushh Mine another members Boushh is on the 501st CRL . The bounty Hunters Guild Members worked hard on it.

Thanks MJ, I'm definitely not saying there is anything wrong with CRLs as a whole, I just struggle at times with reconciling what it says versus some of the costumes I've seen approved and I have to scratch my head. Some costumes are absolutely gorgeous and so meticulously done, others not so much. Boushh is NOT alone in this, I think all costumes have this happen, and a lot has to do with opinions from one approver to another. CRLs too are an ever evolving process, I don't know if any are ever really done.

Fangirl like many CRL's in the 501st domain some have just come to par, and others have been written up years ago and are updated every few years, Take for example the Scout CRL has changed dramatically in the last couple of years, and you will find Troopers will have different armor to the new approved of late, My approval as a Scout was completely different to my sons.....

Boushh is one of the so called newish CRL's to be completed, understanding many years ago those members never had the kits that are available now for us, so their boushh's my look a little "left of Center" so to speak, but in their time they where the only ones around and did a fantastic job with what they had. So yes you will see many different type's some are old and new....and just like all costumes some are brought and some are hand made by members themselves, not everyone can sew or Glue, Paint, sand, mould leather or a wizz with the Dremill.

501st the GML's are from the Local Garrison and use the CRL, not everyone is the same, what one GML will find or pin point a mistake where another GML will see a correction. Its not a perfect world we can only try and help.

I do love that there there is at least a CRL for Boushh! Some characters don't have anything.

MJ makes some great points in regards to the CRL. The CRL's take a lot of time & effort. They have just finalized the ESB & ROTJ Boba Fett CRLs which there has been lengthy discussions on for quite a while.

This is a hard costume to do & everyone puts their own spin on it cause in the end it is your costume & you have to be happy with it. Sometime accuracy has to suffer for comfort & mobility. Had to shorten the armor collar & the bottom of the helmet on my wife's costume so that she could move her head without dislodging the helmet.

Nothing but respect for anyone that completes this or any other costume. This is such a difficult costume to do otherwise you would see more Boushhs , kudos for completing a great looking Boushh.
