Shounds like a great project to do![]()
Would not the arms and legs prove difficult for a person to wear?
Well if it is screen used. If the costume is scaled up a bit, I am sure the arms and legs will fit. It would be an uncomfortable costume though.
you would have to be tall and crazy-thin to make it work. But I would love to see someone try!! he is my 2nd favorite bounty hunter!!!![]()
General Grivious is on the same level as IG-88.
Andy, I believe someone made a pretty cool grivious. Not sure where I saw it though.
As for IG, I think that you dont have to be too tall to make it work, but since you cannot make the headpiece fit your head, unless you get major plastic surgery, then I think that your head would in the IG's chest, so you have a bigger viewpoint. It would have to be pretty big to accomodate the person wearing the costume. I might go for it and try this costume. I have always loved IG-88, besides the Fettman.
I have seen several good Grievous puppets before. they also have a nice place to hide inside of the puppet, the costume can't be done because the arms are way too thin. Not even I could fit myself into an IG-88. If you want to make it unproportional, I suppose it would work.

I think it's pretty doable you just need a thin person like someone that could fit in a C3PO suit, only down side is on how you see through the helmet and the arms and legs will end up looking a tad beefed up.
Anybody up for an extreme diet? Haha. Well, like I said, if you size up the costume to the point that your arms will fit, it could possibly work. After I am done with Fett, which should be sometime early next year, I will start work on this. If I cannot fit in it, then hell, it will go on display.
Edit- Actually I take that back. You would have to modify some parts of it to make it fit you. Like I said before, it would be an uncomfortable costume. Expect to see it at comic con next year.
I'm sure it'd be far easier and more practical to simply make an IG-88 that simple stands there. Not a costume but perhaps an rc droid like the R2D2's that are made with radio controls for its head and maybe its arms. That way everything is in proportion, no one needs to have parts of the anatomy removed to fit inside and it's not simply a static display piece.
i suppose it'd be easy 501st approval....nothing to really compare it to. and the fact that someone could get it to work..you gotta give them credit.
but the movie ig-88 is incredibly static...in any EU or video games he is clearly seen in full motion..... remember he is an assassin droid.
even though it looks like he moves on joints and gear boxes he is pretty flexible...for a droid.
i'm sure as long as people offset the look of the costume in some places it could trick the viewer into a proportional view and still allow some movement.
props to whoever gives it a good go
What about putting it together like the EP 1 C3-P0? A puppet mounted to the front of a black suit. So, you could still wear it and not have to worry about being in it or changing any of the droid's dimensions.
IG-88?!?!? How fething skinny are you, vode?
to create a wearable IG-88 costume to scale would not be at all possible, i think. just a prop, or statue of some kind however, would not just be very doable, but freakin awesome!
maybe a costume based on IG-88 would be more... realistic. like a heavy assassin droid
any ways i say OYA!!!
Now now... it IS possible. You'd just need to be a skinny, quadruple amputee to wear the suit :-)
Just to throw this into the ring, IG-88 is not 501st acceptable.
How is he not? would the Rebel Legion accept him? He is a bounty hunter-sorta right? haha
I might just have to make this wearable. I am still planning this out, because I dont want to dive into it right away. If I make a mistake, then yea, I can fix it, but it would cost more money than I hoped it would.
Hey GCN for the sake of debate...why would IG not be 501st accepted? Wouldn't he be BH status? That is assuming that someone could fit into it. Though you would have to make it our of proportion for a human to fit in there.
What IrishFett said...
Technically IG88 units are assasin droids but the screen used one, was used as a bounty hunter. So I would have to assume it is 501st acceptable, if it is made very accurately.
It still isn't 501st acceptable. You can't physically wear it. Why don't you think there are any General Grievous costumes in the Legion?

Durge! Now that's one I'd like to see.
As for IG-88, I agree that a costume would be better if aimed at more of a heavy assasin droid. Or, for an accurate IG-88 then just go for a static display.
Either way, it'd be a project I'd love to see come to life.
But you have seen it. Or you should have! http://www.paralada.org/Estonia_self...tm/GenDai.html He's one of us "The Clone Emperor."
well, if it was made to wear i don't see why it wouldn't be accepted.
I couldn't find a definitive height for him online, but it looks like it was at least 7 feet?
so. Given that you have the height to play with proportions you could get an alright costume if you were already tall and skinny.
Especially if you used the rig idea for the clamping hands.
This is one of those things like the dark trooper i'd like to see get done by at least one person. I don't see how the 501st couldn't accept it if it was a wearable costume that looked good.
I'm still rooting for you
I'm sure if they let you use a unitard you could still pull off a grievous somehow...
THanks GCN I was thinking it was becasue he was a droid.
I thought really hard about this and actually I wanted to try an IG-88 before but if it is possible, it is way to hard for me. Looking at the Ref pic the problems I see is that the arms and legs are super thin and that the torso is inlined with the outser leg so you can have no hips whatso ever. Now if you can find a way around that then I guess it could work. Maybe a fat IG is the way to go.
Also, does anyone know off han if droids are allowed in the 501st at all? I have never seen the black version of the C-3PO and my friend and hopefully later I will have a working mouse droid. So are droid liked by the empire?
There is nothing that says 501st members can't be a droid. It just has to be the right droid. Owning a mouse droid won't get you in the 501st, since that's not a costume you can wear. 4-LOM is acceptable. Any human-wearable costume (ie one of the 3PO clones) seen as working for the Empire (or probably even the Seperatists) would be acceptable, although it would have to go through the approval process. GCN is correct that IG-88 is not a 501st costume. HOWEVER, that does not mean it can't BECOME one. It is a screen canon, "bad guy" character. That makes it automatically approvable IF you make a screen accurate version, submit it to the GML, and then to the LMO. The catch is, making it SCREEN ACCURATE. Due to the body shape of IG-88, I doubt that's even possible. You might be able to make a cool static display, one where the head moves and such, but as a costume? Extremely difficult. I have seen a Grevious costume before, and it was well done, but it was the "two arms" Grevious, wearing a cloak to hide the person inside. And I do not believe that is 501st approved either.

I've seen Thomas' Durge costume.I like it very much. What I meant was, Durge can be done many times over and still be different and still be unmistakably "Durge". We've seen different versions of Durge so it's a costume to me that you may never get bored of.
Forgive my rushed post, I was a little busy at the time.
Just wondering, I have heard from some members that droids are not allowed. I guess it depeneds who you ask but I see no reason why they wouldn't (especially if you are wearing it and it looks good). I actually had a debate a whle ago about a bith in the 501with some garrison members. Some peopel were for it, others weren't. Basically it ended up as email one of the big guys for approving DZ and make some good claims and see what happens. I would love to do a bith but just need to find a mask wether 501st, Rebel, or neither. Well good luck on the IG project and hope you do it wether it is accepted or not. Also if you do get it all good, submit anyways just to see. Cause even if it isn't, its still a very cool suit or at least an awesome display prop.
Cheers!
I actually sell my IG-88 Tube on ebay.

I will try to make this as screen accurate as possible. Like I said before, and I will say it again, it will be an extremely uncomfortable costume but I believe it can be done!
I would just like to see an accurate IG88 build up done.
How cool of a Photo-op would that be?
There are some out there, Jodo.

Wow...
That`s pretty sweet looking.
Awesome! I was just thinking I would love to make an IG-88 costume for my brother. He's really tall and skinny. I still think it might look a bit bulky... in the arms and legs particularly. Its a great idea though.
I'd say get an Asimo, tear off the casings, and build the hardware into the IG-88 frame. Work out the control systems later.

The costume might come out better if you listened to some of IG88's music while you worked on it.

The 1st album is free too. I am new to this forum but I like it a lot.
it would be hard >.<
Wow that is too cool! Great job on that!

Someone may have mentioned it above and I only barely scanned the posts but check Skaught's IG-88 out from CV. He also has head kits to get you started.
So when you gonna tackle one of these Tony??? :P
are your arms and legs skinny enough?
